Come back to earth... What happens with a lot of compression gauges is a piece of crud blocks the check valve. That makes it leak back and show a much lower reading. I have seen that on my own equipment at times. Another thing that will happen is a leak in the hose or pressure release on some models. There are ways to screw up compression tests.

If you wanna check for a leaking valve, best way i know ofis to remove the head an to put some break fluid, or any kind of fluid in that mater on the valves an blow compress air into the intake/exhaust ports. If they leaking bubbles will come out of the valve an valve seats. But i think you got it running now right? Best luck
