So in the process of upgrading my magneto setup, my pulse coil has naturally been coming in and out a lot. But it seems like all that screwing and unscrewing of the bolts has stripped the threads. Make sense since the metal (aluminum, I believe) is super soft, but now I need to fix the issue. First thought was to get a tap for the next size up (m6) and cut my own threads. However, I have no experience tapping and I'm worried that I'll just end up making bigger and equally useless holes.
Any advice?

If your not sure. It may pay to take it to a garage and get them to fit some sort of insert. It wouldn't cost too much for them to helicoil it.

Or you could replace the bolt with a stud and nut. Install the stud with loctite.

repherence2 I've been researching for hours and that solution never came up but it makes perfect sense to me. Are there some hidden cons to this method?
