I have been a little behaind on this project. I had my other carpel tunnel Cabutil tunnel (funny bone) surgery and have been taking it easy. Before the surgery I did get the Malossi Cylinder and head back on. It went together great. I bought 2 new tires Heidenau 61's. I have read good things about these tires and thought I would try them. I upsized them a step which I also heard was a good idea. It turns out they are the same size as the tires on the GTS so if they don't work out I have a use for them. On the order I got a new belt, I went with Piaggio because I couldn't find one from a different manufacturer. I'll keep you updated, maybe this week I can poke at it some more.

Thanks Senna. You were the one that got me looking at vespas, your 946 is the bomb. Some day I will find one and add it to the collection.

Wow! glad to see ur back pinkscoot in the swing of things: Hope the surgery went well... I read thru the thread several times and couldn't make my way back to what the mileage was on this Sprint. Was it 5,000 or 50,000? If the scooter looked so nice on the outside why was it in such bad shape on the inside? I've owned 4 scooters, and put miles on the last 3. The first one I had, a KYMCO that was stolen with 3,000 miles on it was like the day it rolled off the showroom floor... I was pretty hard on a Chinese KeeWay F-act 50, 15,000 miles, on a budget with a sick wife. But some kid fixed it in a week and sold it. I can kill somebody at his dealership who did an inside trick on me, and sold me that despicable PCH. What do people do to these things? ...

It's 5,000 miles. It's what happens when people try and fix something. They start going down a rabbit hole and don't stop until they have a pile of parts and no clue about how to put them back together. I have never heard of someone pulling the valves with a no start condition. There were so many clues as to why it wasn't starting that I have no idea why he went that far. I honestly think it was the kill switch was on which doesn't let the starter turn.

Yesterday after I ran errands I pulled all of the engine plastics together, air box, cooling shroud and rear mudgaurd. Took them where it was warm and scrubbed them down with degreaser and left them to dry. My hand and arm were a little sore and it was still in the 30's so no more work. Here they are drying: So of course I needed to go for a ride so I grabbed the Scarabeo with its windsheild and big leg sheild and went for coffee.

So I've been poking away at this and got it running. I then discovered a carb leak. The drain screw felt like it could be tighter. I pulled it and put a spare in and hooked a hose to the drain. I also checked the screws on the fuel bowl. Put it together and all was good. I went at the rear lights. The tail lights on this are in the turn signal spot in the US and the big rear lights are only brake lights. The bulbs in the turn signals were all out and a special Piaggio part at $12 each and not available. The original turn signal pods were trashed. I bought new turn signals and a rear Light that was LED with brake and tail light in it. My eventual goal is LED rear turn signals in the Euro spots in the body. With some wiring fun I got it all working. Next was the switch. I had to do the same trick I did on the ET2 and use spades on the terminals on the switch. That went in with some persuasion. and I went to put the lock set in the other side. Thats when I discovered that some one had bent the large steel piece that locks the fork where the lock clips in. To replace it you need to pull the fork. I figured what did I have to lose and taped it with a nail set. I got it back without breaking it and got it all together. With lights working and engine running I got it on the road. It is a nice riding fast scoot. 80cc is a good size. Handling is in question and just okay on the bald tires. After a 10 minute ride it starting mis behaving. I got it home and went over it. I discovered that when I tightened the carb to the intake I missed the correct place and just tightened the intake. OOPS rookie mistake. I got that straight and went out again to warm it up to readjust the A/F screw. On that trip it behaved in an all new and weird way. Got it back to adjust the A/F and discovered that the screw was gone. I guess I adjusted it to rich. I put a spare in and another long ride and all is good. Time for the new tires.

So I went back at this and realized I never cleaned this carb I cleaned the other one. Off to the kitchen for an ultra-sonic bath. Got it back together and it had the same starting problem. The idle is much steadier but it needed starting fluid. I took it for a ride and got it warmed up. The idle was high so I turned it down. A tweaked the A/F screw and it was purring. I had to go into work and wanted to ride it. So it did the same almost start so I opened the throttle and it started up and I had to keep twisting the throttle until it warmed up. I know it's something simple and I hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

Well I have been busy on the scooters but not updating. I found the problem, the intake had a crack that was well hidden. I had my suspicions and that it was the problem. I tested with spray and propane but nothing. I went ahead and got a new one anyway. I was kicking myself because that is usually on the top of my list for replacement. I went ahead and installed it and it starts and runs much smoother. I also went to a 90 main jet and it sounds better as well. You can see that small crack that leads into a tube that runs down. Of course it's on the bottom so it was hiding. With the intake I got the last of the trim and installed it. It looks really good, I like the black instead of the chrome. I still need a few more minor pieces to finish it off but it also needs some bodywork and a repair of some places. Sorry no pictures yet.
