The slips were incomplete, mine only had reaction and 60ft, .42r/t and 1.1sec. 1.1 60ft would have you side by side with top fuel bikes on the launch, so I'm assuming that's 2.1. It looked like you deep staged on one run. You should have had a lower 60ft, and ET, with regular staging. Maybe 0.1. For anyone unfamiliar with deep staging; when you pull in, the top staging beam (pre-stage) lights. Then the bottom staging beam lights. If you move up just a little more, the top beam turns off and just the lower beam is on. That is deep staging. So when you're deep staged, you don't get as much motion (very small running start basically) before timing starts. The advantage to deep staging is that it improves reaction times (could be bad for red lighting) and puts you closer to the finish line (good if you are more concerned with being first to the finish vs timing).

That’s why I think the slips were all messed up. I thought it seemed pretty quick but It’s been along time since I’ve been to the strip.

Ryan’s first run youtu.be/PWqE3MBB0JgRyan’s second run youtu.be/OidMJYuVlfwRyan’s third run youtu.be/Fyl3IqM2AmoHe did a lot better than he gives himself credit for. For basically having half a tuned bike and little to no previous experience actually drag racing scooters, he did great. If he had his bike tuned and had practiced starting at all, I think would’ve taken a race. I bet next year will be a different story…and hopefully one I’m more a part of. Sucks I didn’t have my Zuma 2T out, but man, lot of great riding to do out there on any kind of bike. I don’t think I got any pics of anything too eventful outside of what Ryan already showed you, but here’s a nice pic of his scoot at the Dragway.

I tried to time Ryan's acceleration from his onboard vid. It looks like he was quicker to 40MPH than he was when he was racing me, by as much as 1/2 second. He was quicker to 70MPH by over a second. This is with it out of tune. That's progress. Launch on that thing is tough. There's more in it and Ryan will definitely get it figured out when he has time.
Still, his 0-60s are quicker than my TMAX 500 can do. Those swapped Groms were rolling, and I'd bet nearly everyone here would lose to them and the fastest of the group prob wouldn't have easy races. It should have been the quickest/fastest class.

The Ruckus layout physically doesn’t do anything for me. People like them and I’m glad they do but the bikes they remind me of a mini bike like I had in middle school.
Ryan, how much do you think jetting changes from your home to the rally? 2-5 points smaller?

All-in-all looks like a good time. Did you find any good twisties besides the Dragon? If you got any vids of those corner G's (in dry weather!) I would be extremely vicarious. Otherwise the last time I was on a strip has literally been decades now! Phew there, I said it. My CBR finished the 1/8 in 6.5 seconds, 95 MPH. Good times! I get so nostalgic for that area down there.

All of that area is great riding. 129 out to Maryville isn’t too bad but 321 into Pigeonforge is just as nice as the Dragon but more car traffic. It’s nice cruising 55-60 for miles on end with that scenery. I have full intention to get back down there again, it’s just a beautiful area. Unfortunately the trip with the scoot was wet so really was just trying not to go over. The next day was beautiful and we rode many hours but I never brought the camera for that trip. The MT’s tire edges are nice and gummy now so that counts for something.
As far as jetting it was all over the place depending on elevation. At the track it was 1100 ft, I’m at sea level back home. I’d say almost 5-10 on the pilot and just a few on the main. I already leaned the needle as much as I could. As we traveled the Dragon which peaks close to 2000ft if was horrible. The pipe is just completely covered in oil from how rich it got. Maybe an airbox or smaller carb would of helped. I’ll go better prepared next time. I’m just happy it stayed together.

Ryan is way understating how amazing the fact that his bike did what it did was. He rode the most hyper of hyper race setups with a piss poor tune, through more than a thousand feet of elevation change in a mild monsoon for like 40+ miles. Every single time I checked my mirror and saw him or heard his horribly sputtering ass behind me, was a near divine act.
The next day, he squeezed his sponge filter and it was completely, I mean completely, saturated with water.
Either he knows what he’s doing or those damn bells really work and I need to finally hang mine on my bike.
Not exactly sure what my point is with this, but it was a ride I’ll never forget. I definitely plan on going next year, but I want to take at least five days. Get there earlier in the week and get some good riding in before the rally.
I thought the rally was pretty cool, but I have zero impression of it the second day. All I really did was drive by it. Shenanigans ensued and I never made it back that way haha.

If y'all want a weekend apart from the bore rally, let me know, i'm only 30m from maryville and can get y'all set up on some other local twisty roads as well. Most of the carb guys i talk with down here tune at 1600 feet, theres a quiet spot nearby for that as well. The views are really amazing - if you get a chance for some scenic riding, i suggest the cherohala skyway from tellico to cherokee nc (might see 3000ft elevation). Also, 441 down from maryville through townsend to wears valley and across the foothills parkway to the base of the dragon - for photo-hunters, its an amazing route. Can get some great mountain backdrop shots of your scoots all along there. Stop by top of the world, tn (whole town is hoa, but its a mountaintop mayberry) and - if you can handle nearly 6000ft, head up to clingman's dome, its the top of the smokies, and when its not busy, its so serene.
Outside the smokies, the cumberlands through rocky top and east towards new tazewell (and the back of the dragon from taze to marion) has some very amazing rides. Head to johnson city's neighbor, mountain city and look for steve earle's copperhead road. Further east into nc, you hit the blue ridge parkway and thats an epic ride - the whole skyway is 469 miles and the road's speed limit is 35 mph from the shenandoah mountains to the smokies - its gorgeous!
I have hundreds of nice local roads and sights worth a visit all within an hour of oak ridge, tn as well.

Haha! Next year for sure, but I’m not even ruling out this year again either really. I’m getting a pickup soon and hoping to start a new job. Whenever that first one happens, I plan on doing some more traveling to ride and I only feel like we saw a fraction of what TN has to offer. Based on your statement above, I’m correct and am wasting time by not being there, so I’m planning to come back there or somewhere equivalent very soon.

Too soon, too soon. Haha. That’s almost a bit hard to watch. Such a cold and miserable ride. That was an interesting day to say the least…it’ll be a pleasant memory when it’s a more distant one.

I was hyperthermic on that ride, it was seriously horrible. I’ve gotten stuck in rain like that before just not as long, cold and worried about fuel. It’s still a great memory.
