Hi everyone,
Very grateful to have found this forum.
I am from South Africa and have a Jonway 150 GY6 scooter I use to run around with now and then.
I recently removed the air box to clean in places that cannot be reached while it is on. I taped up the carb etc but completely forgot about the hole where there was a pipe from the gear case to the air box. I sprayed engine cleaner and furthermore sprayed with a high pressure hose. After cleaning I realized my mistake and feared water and engine degreaser went into the gear case.
I immediately drained the gear oil, also topped up while the drain hole was still open to try flush everything out. I have put new fresh gear oil in but just worried it was not enough? I did ride the scooter down and back up the street and it rode fine but wanted to research before going for a proper test.
Could anyone recommend if the ‘flush’ was enough to not have harmed the gears?
Also have a weird issue, where the scooter refuses to start by kick starting, but starts 100% with the electric start.
Any advise would be highly appreciated
Regards, Alex

Welcome to the forum Alex. The easiest way I can think of to get all the water out. Is run it for a short while. Then flush out the oil. If any milky streaks are in the oil. That is water. It's should be easy enough to remove the gear cover and clean the gears, bearings with brake cleaner. If you feel comfortable doing that, that's what I would do.

For the kick start, does it feel like the kick starter is engaging with something, or does it go down too easily? If too easily, open the cvt case and check the kick starter gears and mechanisms.
Just a sanity check, kick starting: put scooter on center stand, turn key to on position, make sure kill switch is not engaged, press the brake lever while doing the kick.
Does it turn on right away when you use the electric start, or does it take 5 seconds or more to start?
Also try the left brake lever instead of the right one with the electric starter, just to make sure. (You probably use the left brake lever when doing the kick start).
