recently purchased a 84 riva 180cc, just going over the scoot to learn it and discovered my carb was not tight to the manifold and then looking back further i could see there was no clamp on the air intake hose to the carb. wondering what i should do to fix that i have huge hands and usually id say that dont mess with how u work on things but these bikes are the worse setup ive ever seen lol. do those open air filters work on these? never had luck with them on my gy6 i ride in all sorts of weather.
the bike really was running great, i did notice it was kinda staying around 50-55ish these should hit 70 or close to it from what ive seen/read? the carb doesnt seem dirty think some one just went through it and forgot to hook some things back up lol i kno it did sit and then guy just wanted it gone was moving. one last thing i was wondering about is the hose was kinda hard to line up with the carb so would just some zip ties make it snug? i tried a brack from a gy6 and just not a lot of room to fit 1 around things.

The stock carb works with the stock air filter setup. An open air filter will not work with the stock carb without a huge amount of work. A zip tie or regular worm gear hose clamp will work on the intake. Most people use a hose clamp.

My Vespa S50 just uses a zip tie on the hose from the air box. Just make sure it's tight.

If you can feed a zip tie underneath you can feed a worm clamp in the same way.
In a pinch one can always use a bit of bailing wire and twist the end. Bailing wire and duct tape will fix anything,

I made a little bracket that went under the carb intake to hold the carb up when I had it apart.
My whole house is a shop since there are no other people around. I keep one bedroom and bath with the kitchen/dining area habitable for people but everything else is fair game for machines, sawdust, swarf, and oil. It is a 60 year old house and if someone had to rehab it they would have to gut it anyway. The property tax people still see it as some sort of cute carpeted dollhouse ready for sale and tax it accordingly.

No pics, all gone to the stinking photobucket in the sky, mine is a 50cc. The carb should be removable. Check and find a service manual.
my bracket was a little scrap piece of 3 sided square aluminum tubing. the short side went under the clamp and the other side was laying on the starter. It was enough to hold up the carb.

nah 50s are way diff then these 180s even the 125s, only manual i can find is 1 u have to buy and thats after a lot of research, the 180cc riva carbs are not meant to come off when the motor is on the bike. on a older forum some one said there was a way to get it off but he could not get it back on with the motor on the frame. one thing they changed with the 200cc rivas i guess that and a less complicated carb. carb is complicated but just seems like ppl didnt take care of them. these should really ahve a fuel filter on the lines as well but didnt come stock. i dont have a reason to take the carb off yet just wanted some tips for when it comes down to it. bike starts and runs fine havent had a chance to ride it since i tightened the carb down to the manifold and got the air box connected right.

Usually things are made to come apart and be worked on, not always though. I can remember some Fords that a person had to pull the engine to change spark plugs. People found ways though. Keep looking for that manual, sometimes they show up in strange places, garage or estate sales, library sales, etc. Sometimes you just have to dive in and investigate, it's just bolts...
I assume you have tried: I use kohler engine fuel filters with a plastic mesh, they don't rot or corrode. Ethanol fuel is hard on fuel systems. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0021Y2XQM/
