I'm looking at a 2018 piaggio liberty 150cc that currently doesn't run and need help too decide if i should buy it and try to fix it.
I've only worked on gy6 scooters and don't know anything about this one, which uses the iget engine and is fuel injected. Are parts for this harder to get and more expensive than for gy6 scooters? How hard is it to troubleshoot it compared to gy6?

If you know how to work on scooters, it’s not a ton different. But everything will be more expensive.
Any idea what’s wrong with it? Does it at least have a title?

I figured more expensive, any idea how much more expensive? Btw, It's fuel injected and has 3 valves, but still air cooled. Right now, all i know is "it doesn't start, was given to me in a trade". Does have keys, not sure about title yet.

Those Piaggio engines are very well documented. It could be as simple as needing a new spark plug or having the fuel system cleaned. Parts are readily available AF1 has a good inventory as does Scooterpartsco. The Modernvespa and the Aprilia forum has a lot of information on the engine. Start with Fuel, air and spark and trouble shoot the problem. The ECU does put out error codes to help you narrow down the problem.

I found the user and service manuals at manuallibs.com, too. I'm guessing for a scooter that LOOKS in decent condition but doesn't start, a quick compression test will tell me if the engine is not seriously messed up? Fixing carburetor and spark problems are relatively inexpensive. I guess i should look for a checklist for buying a used scooter, too.

I believe these engines have a decompression counterweight that reduces the compression for start up. If you release the spring on them you can get an accurate reading. Robot at scooter west has a video on what to look for on a used Vespa. The running gear is similar.

I guess I've been lucky, but i hope if that WERE the case, it would seize or crank really weird! Ok, from what he's saying, it's a lot like the gy6 scooters.
