If all goes according to plan, I’m picking up an ‘08 Zuma tomorrow. Once I pick it up, I’m planning on ordering the parts. Is mid-60MPH possible with “street” parts? Or do I need to lean towards race? I’d prefer a cast iron cylinder, but don’t want to undershoot my goal. Also, would a crank upgrade be required to put me safely within the mid-60’s?
How’s the Stage 6 street race cast cylinder vs the Malossi cast? Is it really better? I wouldn’t mind upgrading the crank if it’ll be a big gain.
I do want this scoot to be reliable enough for a few 30-40 mile rides. Any thoughts on parts? My only other scooter was a Genuine Buddy, and parts are so limited. I didn’t have all these options.

kenhos zuma thread is a good place to start . 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/25916/kens-08-zumbaWhen I was on Zuma forums only Cast iron builds that broke 60 mph with proof were Polini Corsa's. You will need more Rpms with Power to push a Higher Final gear ratio . The Wall of Wind is going to be hard to overcome with Sport level cylinders to break 60 Mph they just dont have enough Horsepower 65 mph leans hard into a Mid race setup Which are Aluminum. Pushing that kind of Rpms needs a crank upgrade . Polini Corsa >Stage 6 cast> Malossi or Polini Contessa The Athena Sport aluminum is more powerful then the Stage 6 Cast. A great way to spend them stimulus checks and break 65mph Athena Race Yasuni C16 Upgraded Crank 19-21 mm Carb Upgraded Gears and a overrange transmission

My old setup was bullet proof. Several 100mi plus rides and got decent fuel economy. Mid 60’s top speed and moved out very well. Similar to what was posted above. Polini Corsa Malossi RHQ crank 21mm phbg w/ OEM airbox C16 or Polini For race 4 11:1 final Polini hi speed, TP rear pulley and Aerox 100 belt (budget OR)

Aircooled Metrakit SP3 cylinder, which is just a rebranded athena evo. Metrakit sp exhaust. 20.5mm dellorto phvb Race crank Malossi vl14 reeds Very tall gears, something like 8:1. It did 70mph @ 11k rpm. Cruising @ 60 @ 10k rpm all day long. When you tune it right its a bullet proof setup indeed.

If you can find a CPI/Keeway/Vento there are parts for those. At least mechanical parts. Forget the body panels.

Maybe it was never meant to be. I blew out my back and don't think I can manage getting it onto my scooter lift. Even the hour drive to pick it up seemed painful. Add an angry wife into the equation and it was a nogo. Maybe I'll just make her Buddy faster. If it breaks, I'll just tell her its her fault for not letting me get the Zuma.

My Zuma had a bent crank too. It hit 63.5mph and could cruise at 60 pretty easily. Build is my sig except for Polini crank, Athena 70, Yasuni R, 19mm CP. I bent it out of true when I put it in for sure. Still put 2k solid miles on it with little issue aside from vibration rattling things loose constantly. My bike is Loctited now and ready for its new crank haha. Cylinder at end of season.

Well, I'm discouraged when it comes to finding my Zuma. I may just see what I can do with my Buddy. I've found a gear up kit that should work. I think I also found an upgraded crank if I manage to break the one that's in there.
For now, I'll just be jealous of all you Zuma owners.

Your buddy with a gear up kit will get into high 50's I’m hoping so. I’m still unsure of my actual top speed because I have to settle for shorter slight uphills. There are just no long flat roads to run it out on. I can tell there are some gains to be had, though. Now I need to wait for my back to feel better before attempting to change any parts. Looking forward to it soon.

ohhbuddy found the right gear to swap in for the 2 stroke Polini secondary 15/42,(9.5:1) part# P2021346 he picked up 5-7 mph up with that added to his malossi 70 cc set up From 50 to 57 mph
I saw similar results when I added a gear up kit to my zuma

Buddy’s have the small tires right?
Most guys I know with those size tires on Elites start at ~9.0:1 and only go lower from there. My buddy’s elite with a Corsa and a pipe with 8:1 gears will do 70mph. A lot of guys run 7:1 as well.
They being said, for our tastes around here, the latter may be a bit extreme lol.

Small tires. 90/90-10. That said, I dont know if gearing exists for the bike that’ll go lower then 9.5:1. I really don’t want to rosk losing much low end power, so my biggest concern is that the 9.5:1 will be too aggressive. I do have lots of hills/mountains.
