One of the salvage yard scooters I spotted that I couldn't refrain from getting was the original jog that was available in the U.S.
I think it's pretty cool, so if I can find parts and ways to fix it, I'm hoping to keep it and have a pretty custom look to it. I've mostly just rebuilt scooters to OEM but as I plan to keep this one, hope to do something fun with it.
When i hotwired it and put in gas/oil and a working battery,(after checking the carb and cleaning it, even though it was spotless) it started right away with electric start. That was enough for me to buy some parts.
Things wrong with it (that i've identified so far):
- no seat
- no front leg shield
- no body piece under the front of the seat (it says "yamaha on it")
- no side skirt pieces
- missing front left turn signal.
- headlight bulb is toast
- no mirrors
- petcock leaks
- front fork is bent.
- seatlock latch is broken and useless.
- main body plastic is cracked.
Work done so far:
- had a key made
- bought a seat on eBay (that i'll reupholster at some point)
- installed a shut off, filter, and new vacuum petcock onto gas line.
- all the general cleaning stuff.
I have driven it around a bit. It's a bit unsafe with the bent forks but still pulls super nice. I had it going over 30mph but value my life so haven't pushed it further.
First thing I need to figure out before I continue is the forks. Does anyone know what other forks whether aftermarket or from other scooters/things that I could fit on this? I found new OEM forks online at some sight for $260, but not really interested in doing that. I'd either get a used replacement or an aftermarket upgrade, maybe that can swap to disc brakes.
I'm considering doing the Gentsuki house scooter thing, as it's one of the few US models that can be done up like that.
