Whoa! A whole cotton swab flew into your eye?!?
Kidding, but glad you're alright.
I wear glasses and didn't wear eye protection for much of anything for years. I still don't wear anything while cutting grass. That sounded much more exciting or terrifying for the neighbors than intended. I meant no eye protection while mowing the lawn. lol When I got the mini-lathe, it made me start wearing eye protection much more in the garage though. That sucker will toss chips and strands of metal anywhere and everywhere when you least expect it. That made me carry the habit over to the grinder and so on much more often.

Some days everything is out to get you. My brother had a water main explode when he was looking at it. Loads of metal shrapnel in his eye. He was lucky, was wearing contacts. They said otherwise it would of blinded him. I didn't even Realise he wore glasses till then.

It always takes that one time to start your safety routine. I’ve got a metal splinter in my eye and it’s been there for years. That’s about the time I started being a little safer around cutting equipment.

Here’s another lesson learned don’t walk outside bare foot. This was shortly after I moved to this place... that’s not mine. A super long sewing needle about 3/4” in.

Learned my lesson during the early days of the Pandemic. Was using a dremel at low speed to clean some 3D prints. After a bout 20min I get this feeling there's something in my eye.
Go to the bathroom and check mirror. Nothing readily apparent. Pull down lower part of my left eye and there it is: a 2mm sliver of PLA filament. Went to med kit and grabbed the tweezer. Took a sec but I got it.
Never again. I wear a face shield when I work on stuff now.
