I could not find a vacum petcock to replace the faulty one,had to go manual, check this on yours?? the pet cock mounts are 34mm centre to centre lots of manual ones available but be care to get one with a small filter mine is larger than I need so I have to keep the tank topped up.tank removal is straight forward.

What in the name of all that’s good and holy is this? What is that? JB weld? I sell autoparts professionally. Every now and again I'll get a new customer or a repeat offender who will want to buy oil stop leak, power steering stop leak, head gasket stop leak or JB Weld. A few years ago I saw a tech try and "repair" a cracked diff cover on a 2500 HD with essentially a whole gallon of JB weld. After the ensuing disaster I now no longer sell stop leak products or JB weld. Some people just shouldn't pick up the tools. Walk away and call a professional. Your tank is like a crime scene. I don't want to look but I can't take my eyes away. My God that's a bad one.

If the tank was working without leaking, you may want to just leave it alone, unless you have a bunch of money to drop on finding a replacement. The oem petcock would be $60 or so too. You can just get a generic vacuum petcock and use it along with a standard in line fuel filter. Something like this.

Shite! That belongs front and center of the "How NOT To" show case!! Guess you could try to remove it with a heat gun and tank filled with water..It could be rusted through, but ya gotta find out or just replace it...

I got a tank from a razz coming. It should fit since I’m removing the oil tank and running premix. I learned a long time ago not to trust a 33 year old oil injection system. I’m beginning to sand down the body panels and I can see the JOG sticker intact. Maybe I can salvage the decal, but I doubt it.
So while I wait for it to arrive I’ll futz with the electrical and try to make it pretty. Not “showroom pretty” but at least “doesn’t look like a bad decision when the bar lights come on pretty”

Today I’m stripping the crappy spray paint off the panels. I’ve got to fix some cracks too. And the headlight doesn’t work. I just found that out today.

Please remember that little crack right on the "nose" of front panel was a factory fitted option and should be preserved as such. Geoff

Well the electric start works. It shouldn’t but it does. So that’s good news.

I eliminated the fuel valve and went straight gravity. Still won’t start unless I pour premix in the spark plug hole.
Here’s what I think - it’s either A) a stuck float needle or 2) bad reed valves.
Besides this issue it’s been surprisingly easy to work on. I can’t wait the get her running
