This is a U.K. system to penalise traffic offences,my wife has to attend one or go see the judge. They are now held remotely online, the charge can vary from £80 to £180 dependant on the provider,it,s the same 8hours whoever you pick. My wife signed up for the £80 option after she paid they then sent a list of do,s and do nots,it seems that if our internet fails during the course she has to start again paying £80 for each retake,it,s not a huge worry we go for months without a loss of broadband. But a bit of careful shopping around before booking would be advisable.

Why would an internet failure require one to start over and pay again? Seems like a scam.

It does seem like they could have you setup a login and log back in if anything went wrong. I've been through a few of those here in MD USA. It has been years. Here they are for accumulation of points, rather than automatically for each ticket. We had the option of sitting in a class for 4-6 hours or doing an online course and then just going into a hotel where they'd setup a test area in a conference room for a day. I always did online, because you could get through the half day course in an hour or less and the in person test was usually 15-20 minutes. Don't recall the price, but it was all done by the state so no shopping around. They never worked for me. I did, IIRC, 3 classes within a short period. By then I had 11 or 12 active points and had to go in front of a judge, who revoked my license. 6 months later I was allowed to schedule another meeting with a judge, where she decided to let me have my license back. 7 months total without a license. I only have a warning here, because I think I had to turn in other letters and stuff when I went to classes, but just to give you an idea, this is what they would send before points were high enough to require action. BTW, the real heavy penalty part, aside from no license, was insurance. My insurance company loved me getting tickets because the rate would jump up every time I got one and I wasn't getting into accidents to cost them anything. While points are active 2 years for the state, the insurance company was 4 years IIRC so rates stayed high for a long time and I had a whole bunch of points in that period. My rate ended up being about triple what it started at.

Brent that's scandalous! And Geoff assuming this took place in England I can only assume your poor wife had a mishap with a mother duck and her babies. EDIT: ducklings. baby ducks are ducklings.

The insurance thing is a scam also. I have had only four tickets in my entire life; 1st in 1970 a warning for inoperative tail lights, bad fuse holder clip, took a while to find. Now if they had seen me 10 minutes before that doing 155 in a 55 at 3am on the interstate... 2nd in 1975 during a police 'speedup' job action, speeding 33 in a 30 ticket was fraud. 3rd in 1990 a warning, sun blinded me momentarily and I missed a light changing from green to yellow. 4th in 2019 was very very sick and just out of hospital, turned left on a red turn signal with no oncoming traffic. My insurance doubled after the 2019 ticket.

I have had only four tickets in my entire life; Wow. There was a point in my life where I think the term "hell on wheels" could have been about me. Here are some highlights of my career, and this is a drop in the ocean compared to the list that I never got caught for. -I was pulled over 7 times in one week at one point. -I got 17 warnings when I was 16-17, before someone finally gave me a ticket. Ironically, my first ticket was for reckless driving when someone reported me for running them off of the road and I didn't even do it. I passed them, proclaimed "slap shift" as I slapped the shifter all the way from 2 to R and killed the car, started it back up, and passed them again. The charge on the ticket was deserved, but I never ran anyone off of the road. -The very first time I was pulled over, I tried to run briefly in a Grand Prix with a 305 over 60-something in a 50. lol The cop said I better never try that again and gave me a warning for the speeding. -I had police come to my house over reported traffic incidents more than once. Meanwhile I called the police when someone legitimately tried to run me off of the road and they said nothing more than they'd pull them over if they saw them doing anything wrong. -I got a verbal warning for 124 in a 50 when I was in my 20s because the cop said he didn't want to be the one that took my license with all the other stuff on my record. -I drove my car on a sidewalk (empty) with a cop right behind me, because there was a car load of girls behind me that I knew just before that and I was a stupid showoff. Got a warning for that. -I did a burnout in front of a cop. $50 ticket, 1 point. Maybe this is why everything goes wrong for me today. I used up my luck long ago. I did just have a cop tell Ryan and I to stop it after doing wheelies in front of him at a car show though.

I like the failure to wear a seatbelt fine. I sat there for several minutes waiting for the officer to approach my window. Took off my seatbelt to get my wallet out. He wrote it up. Pennsylvania state troopers have a 1040 long form for violations.
So Brent, is the time with no license how you got into scooters?

So Brent, is the time with no license how you got into scooters? Nope. Actually had nothing to do with it. Scooters require a license here. When I lost my license, I spent everything that I would have spent on going out and gas on replacing the 306 in my Mustang with a 331. Makes sense, right? I put "skinnies" on the front though, because I wanted to stop driving 100MPH everywhere and it handled like crap with the small light drag wheels up front. It worked. I actually got way less tickets after that.

The speed awareness course here, is usually an option If caught speeding, but otherwise have a clean licence. It's a bit of a scam really. As most courses are run in partnership with the local authorities. You take the course so you don't get the points. With the increase in insurance, but a lot of companies ask now if you have attended a speed awareness course. Then still charge you more!🤔

If you have a dash-cam that is 2 way, the kind that also records you. You can use it to show that you were wearing your seatbelt and taking it off after you stopped. This has saved me from 2 seatbelt tickets in Michigan.

We are all going to need dash cams just like in Russia. I have a medical exemption for a seatbelt, i very seldom wear one.

I most states of the USA, if an incident occurs while you are turning (left or right), it is your fault automatically. When you are turning you have to yield to other traffic. Even if the other person runs a red light, it is your fault because you didn't yield while turning.
