So I have a question for you guys about selecting a cylinder kit when your scoot has a rev limiter. I have a first generation eton beamer. It has a dc ignition system that is near impossible to find a cdi for outside of a oem unit form Ebay ($100). So my cdi has a rev limiter set at 9500. Outside of changing the entire ignition system to AC I'm kinda stuck with the oem unit. I have been looking at getting a bbk for it and I want to go up to the high end sport or even a 10mm race cylinder. My question is am I wasting my money going for the high revving kits if im limited to 9500 rpm? Would I be better off shooting for a mid sport kit tailored for a lower rpm range? I don't want to waste the money on a high rev cylinder that doesn't come into power until I'm already running out of rpm. Realistically I don't see my self getting past the rev limiter without finding an original oem cdi with only one green wire. Yes, you would be wasting your time and money if you have a 9500RPM rev limiter and install a higher revving setup. It's not just that you will miss out on a little speed. With a high RPM cylinder and exhaust, you may miss out on a lot of performance all around and perhaps struggle with tuning and making it usable.
IMO, there are two sensible options :
1) Install a sport kit and exhaust that make peak power around 9000RPM or just a little beyond.
2) Find a way around the limiter first. Then go with whatever you'd like.
You mentioned even potentially going with a race cylinder. If you wanted to go that far, you might as well get over the idea of keeping stock ignition components. Race stuff that really revs will pretty much require replacing the flywheel, stator and CDI with a racing unit because stock flywheels don't hold up at high RPM. I wouldn't really suggest jumping straight from stock to race anyway. More complicated to tune and requires more parts to have a good setup.

The race setup was kind of a pipe dream atm. I am looking at gathering parts over a long period of time if I decided to go the race cylinder route. I knew about the need for all the extra parts as far as the race kits go.
Hmm well that's disappointing but I can't say I'm surprised.
Any one have any recommendations on 10mm sports kits that have peak power around 9000 to 10000 rpm? I know from item descriptions on where to start looking. Just hoping someone has some experience in the area.
Im thinking my game plan will be this:
First regardless of the rev limiter I'm thinking of picking up a naraku cast iron 70cc kit and pair it with the yasuni R pipe.
Even though I do plan on continuing to chase the rev limiter issue.
Second start investigating whether I can get past the programed rev limit or will I need to switch over too a full race ignition anyways. The full race ignition isn't a game changer for me but like I said before, I was planning to take at least a year or two gathering parts to build a race setup. If I am stuck with the rev limit at 9500 I will most likely address this before I got to that point.

Is the CDI stamped with "61219"? If so all you have to do is clip both green wires on the back to completely derestrict the CDI per ETon's TSB. This page has a lot of useful info for ETons. get2itparts.com/etontech/PD_PN2D.php (CDI TSB is on pg61 of the service manual.) |

I have both green wires on the back side of the cdi clipped but I still hit a wall in rpm around 9500. When I first installed the cdi the moped wouldn't run over like 4000 rpm (both wires still intact). Next I cut the green wire closest to the plugs. Max rpm jumps to about 6000 rpm (first green wire cut) Last I cut the second green wire as well. Max rpm jumped to 9500 rpm (both green wires cut) |

Have you tried going down a hill when its at 9500 to see if it'll rev over 9500? My beamers didn't stay stock for very long, but wanna say that's around where they topped off at on flat ground with the stock exhaust then you could get around 10k going downhill.

Oh no long downhill and WOT and highest I have seen is 9585. It ends up backfiring if I hold WOT downhill for extended periods (over 30 seconds) so I avoid it.
I am tempted to see if I connect the top and bottom set of green wires. What I mean by that is say there are the two green wires (already cut) One above the other. If I possibly took one side of the top wire and the opposite side bottom wire and temporarily tried connecting them, or any configuration of the wires that isn't cut (open) or factory.
My only fear is that in doing any screwing around like this I fry my practically brand new $100 cdi.
Oh and failed to mention that my factory cdi did not have a rev limiter (green wire cut) and it revved out down hill well past 9500. So I know its not a mechanical issue.

Thank you so much for the links. I have been trying to track that dio cdi down. I might buy both and test them out. If the dio ignition ends up being what I'm looking for I'll end up buying a spare. The 100 dollar oem part is kinda pricey for still having no bypass to the rev limiter. |

You can get alot of speed with 9500 rpms and convential wisdom is stock cranks should not live above 10 k rpms

Im looking at it more of what I need to buy in what scenario. Say i go the mild sport kit route and stay with the rev limiter for now. So bbk, carb, jets and pipe. Really only topend components. Or hypothetically I do get past the rev limiter then its worth my time and money to go all the way to the crank and shoot for a hig rev build. Im more stuck on the route to take. Not positive but im pretty sure df41590 has a later model that changed to an ac ignition. Could be mistaken so correct me if im wrong. Until I sort out the rev limiter and figure out if its staying or can be bypassed I wont know what route i wanna take. |

If you have a 9,500rpm limit the Yasuni Z would be a better bet. It makes peak power from 9,200 till about 9,700 rpm.
My Piaggio has a 10,000 rpm limit, the Z matches well with it.

Thanks for the info aeroxbud. I will keep that in mind when I end up getting to the pipe and cylinder. Do you have a big bore kit on that or is it still factory displacement? |
