When you check the to see if you have spark. You take out the plug and put it back into the coil boot. You can touch it to the valve cover and try cranking the engine. You should be able to see the spark from the center electrode to the center ground. This is right, right guys?
Reason why I am asking is I can't get it to spark that way. What I'm getting on this 49cc is only spark when the spark plug is close to the valve cover. To top it off! it's not skipping from the center electrode to the valve cover. It's sparking from the ground (the sides of the spark plug. Like from the grounding electrode and the treads) And it won't spark from the center electrode at all.
Does this sound right at all???
Thank you

You are probably not earthing the plug correctly.

You are probably not earning the plug correctly. Oh no! That's how I've grown up learning how to check for spark. What I'm trying to say, is that when I do that. I don't get any spark from the center electrode to the grounding electrode. Instead the only place I'm getting spark from. Is the between the spot I'm grounding on the bike and the spot on the plug that I grounded. There is no spark going between where it's supposed to be.

It should jump from the central point. You might have a bad lead/plug perhaps. The spark could be jumping to the easiest ground.

I've tried 4 different coils and even bought a new spark plug, cause I cant figure out why the plug is firing this way. I've checked all my grounds that I can think of and even added another one. I've got another scoot that is identical and have been checking against it's ground wires too!

Do u have a running or starting issue or just wondering why it arc's like that? It sounds like u either got a bad plug or are not grounding it good enough. Take a piece of wire and wrap it around the threads tightly and other end to a good ground wrap the threads with electric tape see if it arc's through electrode but u either got a bad plug or bad ground

Also when I do it I don't use the threads against ground I put the ground strap flat on the valve cover

Nobody suggested switching the lead and ground wires on the coil. Try that

Sorry for the late response. I'm having a starting and running issue. Sometimes it won't start at all. When it does it will run good until warm. Then it won't let the engine rev up at all. It will start up great every time, but you can't give it any gas. The next day it will go back to not starting at all again.

The stator coil had gone bad, especially when it warmed up. Have you tested how much voltage you're getting from the red/black wire coming out of the stator?

Unfortunately I can't find my voltmeter at the time. Tearing up the house right now looking for it. Here is a video though to show that what's happening. It doesn't look like it has a weak spark either. youtu.be/0XO8-_EuWv0
