Can anyone tell me I bought a airsal piston and the rings came installed on the piston does this mean the factory set the ring end gap or does it need to be checked I don't see why they would install them if it wasn't bc removing them from Piston to check it is always a chance of damaging the rings

The rings should be sized correctly to the piston, especially if they came with the piston. If there were any question, you would buy new rings to match.
The ring end gap is adjusted to fit the cylinder. Take the rings off the piston and insert into the cylinder, then measure and adjust gap. Many video's available

I know how to do it I just wanted to know if I bought a cylinder and piston kit could I assume bc the rings were installed on piston out of the box if they were gaped already by manufacturer or do I have to take them off the piston. I can't understand why they would install them for u to have to remove them to gap and reinstall

All the cheap kits I bought they didn't come installed and I gaped them I wasn't sure bc this is a name brand kit and they came pre installed if the manufacturer does it with the kit

Airsal is just on the edge of being a big name
Double checking cannot hurt but not checking could .
We have had the bigger names have casting differences and send the wrong combo of parts .

My Airsal kit did NOT have the rings pre-installed, they were in a separate little plastic pouch. I'd wonder if you got a returned item, or one someone fiddled with it.
Just check them.

Actually, that makes a fair bit of sense, then. My kit is the complete Airsal all-alloy cylinder and piston kit, not STG's Airsal piston in a stock-style sleeved cylinder.

Would u trust him or remove them and check this is my first buy from him but he seems to know his shit and he's very responsive with getting back idk removing the rings and reinstalling them is kinda a pain and I'm worried abt possible damaging a ring on the way off

I asked my friend Stevie Wonder and he said his friend Ray Charles agreed, the gap looks ok from the factory.
Kidding aside, I got a Naraku set and gapped the rings, found out I had two feeler gauges stuck together. Oops. Too late.
Next cylinder was a Stage6 and I got out the rings and installed them as is.

If he is responsive, then I would ask directly if the rings were gapped or just installed. STG has been around awhile and I don't recall anything that would make me not trust them, so if told that they were gapped before installation then I'd probably believe it. I would hope that anyone that knows engines would not install rings and not check the gap first when selling parts. Most of the time it's right or at least close, but not every time. If all a seller wanted was to make sure the rings went on in the right order, that could be done without installation and just labeling/instructions. I wouldn't expect them to be installed for clocking purposes, because I wouldn't trust them not to move.

If you want to KNOW, there are two ways: check them for proper gap, OR put it together and see what happens. If someone made a mistake in measurement, you will(may) find out, but you won't like the results. I have no reason to doubt the vendor, but the one time you DON'T check is the time someone was a bit sleepy or thinking of something else when doing the checking. At least that's been my experience. Again, nothing against the vendor. Stuff happens, and it can't hurt to check. IMO. tom
