Greetings all,
I did try to search the VOLUMES of wonderful information, however, I may not be using the proper query language, or it just does not exist.
Lately, first start of the morning I pop the key in. I switch it from lock to 'on.' The instrument lights do not come on. Nor does the start button have any affect. Once I kick start it, it comes completely to life. If I then shut it off and remove the key, then insert and turn to 'on,' now it all lights up and the start button again works. The start is strong, so I know it's not the battery. Plus I'll only run it for a few seconds then try the electric start. What I am thinking (and I am VERY new to this all (but not new to electronics,)) it could either be the relay, or key switch? I do have the service manual and do not see an exact route in the troubleshooting section that I am experiencing..
I know there are some smart minds here that may be willing to point me in the right direction?
Thanks, Jonny...

I have a Vino that is not on the road ATM. I cant remember if the "instrument lights" come on when you turn the key switch on or not. Check that the brake levers light the brake lights consistently when they are pulled because the brake switches also inhibit the electric start if one is not pulled when trying to use estart.

Normally when you turn the key to the on position, all the lights come on. Then I can hold the brake lever and push the starter button. Lately, when I turn the key to the on position, I get no lights and no starter. If I kick start it, it runs fine. Then if I pull kill it and pull the key out, but it back in and turn it to the on position, the lights come on and the starter works like it is supposed to. I am thinking it may be the ignition switch. Dunno.

Does sound like a faulty switch. I would try and move the key about, or ignition wires from the back. See if anything changes.

Is this just the first start of the day or anytime it sits for awhile? If you turn the key on/off repeatedly from a no power situation without kick starting it does the dash ever light up? I’m thinking a grounding wire somewhere. The action of kick starting the bike may make enough jiggle to pass ground through the steering column where as when it’s been sitting for awhile it loses that ground through the steering bearings etc.
