So I have a 50cc gy6 scooter that starts when I only press the clutch (the right brake handle) I don't press the start button. I thought the problem had something to do with the starter/kill switch so I got another one but the problem is still the same. Any idea on what the problem might be?

So without touching the start button the starter engages when you squeeze the brake lever? Something is methed up. Wiring is criss crossed somewhere. I’d say solenoid is stuck but the brake lever wouldn’t affect that.

Some machines switch both the hot side and the ground side of the solenoid. What is this machine?
If thats the case and one side has the switch bypassed all ready, it would just need the other side to switch.
A meter at the solenoid would sort things out fast.

It sounds like the starter button is stuck closed inside or the wire is shorted to ground between the starter button and starter solenoid. There's two small wires at the solenoid one gets power from the brake switch and the other is ground from the starter button. If it's starting when u only pull the brake that indicates the ground side in the solenoid is grounded. That's either a stuck closed switch or the wire from button to solonoid is shorted to ground. Unplug the starter button and pull brake if it starts it's a shorted wire if it doesn't start the button is stuck closed

So do you mean just switch the solenoid around?

Read what scooter7878 posted.
The starter solenoid(relay) is operated by 12v. It gets power from the brake light circuit when you pull on a brake lever. It gets ground from the STARTER button switch when you press the button.
If it already has ground(shorted wire/broken STARTER switch). it will energize the relay winding and send power to the starter motor whenever the brake sends power to the other small wire on the relay.
If you disconnect the STARTER switch under the front cover panel or inside the headlight cavity, and it still energizes the relay and enables(powers) the starter motor when you pull the brake lever, then the GROUND to the relay is being supplied by an unknown factor. Perhaps agent 007 has gotten in and sabotaged your machine. But I don't think so. A wire can get chafed and have the insulation rubbed off or damaged, and touch GROUND. It can also get smushed between a bolt/nut/frame, and again get GROUNDed. You can disconnect the switch, and if it no longer energizes when you pull the brake lever, you can then check that the switch is broken, and is allowing GROUND connection all the time. tom
