Farmer I would be curious to what carb hacking they suggest and how to do it .
Could you take a picture of the instructions . shimming the needles with a thin washer or a small round piece of an aluminum beer can with a hole for the needle is easy enough . modifying the slide if you do it wrong could make it a paperweight

I believe both jets are removable

current setup buddy50 only 200 miles 70cc stage6 streetrace bore, stock piston bearing yasuni r exhaust polini cp21 46pilot 100main
i have been having the same issue as jkeney had with his buddy. the tach jumps when you throttle hard or high rpms. the wiring is solid and the koso instructions specify to connect it to the positive of the coil. also it sounds like its detonating or spark knock. no i did not check the squish. i did take off the head and cylinder and the piston comes right to the top of the cylinder im going to have to double gasket or somthing to bring down the compression. also i left the cover under the seat off to listen to the motor, it has clicks and clatters i dont think i have to much time on this crank even though its brand new

It’s possible the belt slips making your tach jump

Check the squish, it's easy to do. I would of replaced the small end bearing with something better. We have had a lot of failures around here lately.

I guess you would need to measure the size for the yamaha one. Once you find the size you could Google it for a suitable bearing.

If more Buddy 50 owners report having a jumpy tach, it could be some strange mechanical issue as snow said, but I would expect that you'd notice the actual engine speed changing along with tach fluctuation in those cases. Another thought would be perhaps some oddity with the CDI. I couldn't tell you why, but some CDIs have done strange things with tachs when going bad on my scoots. If that's possible, it makes me wonder if the design of a CDI or ignition system could mess with a tach under some conditions.

would the spark knock cause back feed to the tach? the ohhhbuddy is right spark knock is in all throttle and rpm range, if i grind the head, does the finish need to be smooth or could i get away with a flapper disc?

I have experienced tach spike on a sled from the belt slipping during hard excelleration that only a digital tach will pick up. A lot of sleds do it .where you have to recalibrate clutch components to stop it. There is usually not enough belt squeeze on the primary clutch from reduced contact area . Sometimes there isn’t enough spring pressure on the secondary and the belt will pull down in the secondary making the primary slip resulting in tach spike . But weird things can happen with electronics , I have seen that too.
