More recently I've noticed that my VIP Future Champion will go into 9k RPM or more very easily. Used to be only when going downhill but now is mostly on flat and especially on downhill as well. If I don't reduce speed going downhill the RPM will just continue to go up.
I can rarely get the motor to not be under 7 or 8k RPM when trying to attempt 40~ mph.
If I want to keep it low, I basically have to drive around 25 or 30mph.
Idles where it's supposed to, at 1.5k

Have you changed anything in the CVT? How many miles does the engine have? Could of just be getting run in if it's low miles. You could always try heavier rollers. But too heavy will make the engine struggle to get into the power band.

Check belt width. RPM will rise if the belt thins much.

The CVT works by varying the width between the sides of the variator and the clutch assembly. If your belt is worn, it is very likely thinner, and will not get squeezed as much to go as high up/far out in the variator, so will not do the same to the clutch(forcing the sides apart) so the gear ratio will not be as 'high' as previous. Thusly, your top speed will be lower, and the engine rpms (variator locked to the crankshaft) will be higher. I vote with the previous posts, in that I think you need a belt. Jim Beam is good, but you must sip. tom

And get a nice belt, like a Bando, or some other Kevlar belt
