Hello, I just purchased a new Gator 150cc and want to get it to the point that I'm not struggling in traffic like my old, now defunct 50cc pain in t.. Anyway, I' started by changing oils to high quality, breaking in as best as possible rather than maxxing throttle all day. Also, changed spark plug to Iridium NGK. Will change to performance inline fuel filter when it arrives, and am returning airscoop for one that includes the fan cover, since mine won't permit the scoop to be installed. Now once all that is done and is good, I want to next do about 3 more upgrades, first, a tube air HP filter, bout 13gram roller weights, performance exhaust, and bout 120 main jet on the carb? I might want to get a 26 to 28mm carb and replace, but not there yet. All help and suggestions VERY much appreciated. My main concern at this point since what I DON'T want is to stop it from running is this: is it ok for me to for now just go with the air filter upgrade? Will it help at all or possibly hurt, without the other mods? It's just the easiest, most cost effective one right now, will I need to do any adjust to carb? Thats where I really don't want to be poking around just yet. I want to start on the right foot this time and not lose another scooter at 2100km's. Again, thnx...

I would go 26mm pwk, 13g rollers, 32/115 pilot/main and an optionally open air filter solution, A8 or A9 cam. The timing advance trick at the magneto wheel does a lot but is only safe if there is good petrol in the tank.

A foam filter on its own will make it drink petrol, and be very loud.

A foam or cone filter on the intake will require a lot of carb tuning. It is best to leave the stock carb alone for a spare if you need to go back to the stock airbox and purchase a new carb designed for an open air filter.
