My 2001 Vino 2t still runs well overall however it seems slower as it stretches it's legs these days. If I'm heading up hill, it slows far more than it used to. It only has about 2,000 miles on it since it was running perfect. I checked maintenance intervals and it shouldn't need anything at this time, however it seems it does.
What shall I check, spark plug comes to mind. I know I had to change plugs on my 1980 Honda PA50 moped at only 500 miles, and it made a huge difference.

I would try a fresh clutch contra spring as this controls back shifting and keep the rpm where it needs to be. I would also put a digital tach to keep and eye on it.

Why not the belt or the rollers first? Contra spring would be something 20 steps down the line... The engine is stock I assume? If so, measure belt width and compare with service limit. Ask here what the service limit is. If it isnot satisfactory, check rollers for flat spots and replace if needed. Also check the variators' drive face for wear. Maybe a stupid question, but are the tires properly inflated? 2.2 bar is where they should be.

I suggested the contra spring is because I think it’s something overlooked , l have been all over the place with both of my scooters and low and behold the contra spring was sacked compared to a new one with a lot less than 2000 miles. This would cause the other parts to wear out faster. Going slower up a hill seems as the scooter isn’t back shifting and keeping the rpm where they need to be. This even makes the motor run hotter. The little experience I have is the Honda and Genuine contra springs are less then stellar.I defiantly agree there could be little pieces of the whole cvt system.

...air filter needs cleaning?
spark plugs are one of the cheapest parts on the bike, you might as well start with replacing that as well.

Tire pressure first, Spark plug second, and clean the filter so you dont foul as soon, If they’re all fine then probably something in cvt is worn or clean the carb. For cvt, Belt is easiest to check first, then rollers, then contra. Inconsistent mix ratio is possible if you pre mix. Hope it’s not an air leak! (Probably not)

thanks for the tips, I'll give it a once over this coming weekend. Tire pressure, air filter, spark plug. More than likely, it's one of those.

Not really, but it does require purchasing a deep well left handed flare nut wrench in 12mm.

Sheesh, still haven't looked over my Vino. I recently bought a 1989 Honda GB500 and while there, also bought the seller's 2003 Moto Guzzi V11s. So much to play with.

Well, the filter is clean, and since plugs are cheap, I ordered another NGK BPR7HS. I recently read about swapping the 16.5mm to a 15mm belt width. Anyone have the link to the correct one?

I swapped to a new plug, no difference in performance.
