When I got my prebug, the airbox boot was ridiculously hardened and shrunken, so I used a pod filter for a bit, and had a soft seize the other day. I wanted to go to a stock airbox eventually anyway, so I picked up a (teknix brand) stock replacement airbox from scootertuning. Problem is, with my bugeye, there's a hose with a bend going to the carb, which gives it a good amount of flex to go from the stock 34-35mm opening to the 38mm (screw-on) mouth that the PHBG carbs have...the prebug has basically just a rubber collar, and it's incredibly, INCREDIBLY difficult to mount, even with a heat gun to warm up the boot. Mounting it basically means disassembling the airbox so I can handle it from both inside and out, not to mention taking off the main body fairing for access. This is making re-tuning a nightmare...every jet change is sweaty 30 minute affair.
I know 49ccscoot has done a video on using a modified stock airbox with that vacuum hose setup, but on these bikes the airbox is mounted basically right onto the mouth of the carb, and I'd rather not relocate it if I can avoid it.
There must be a trick to this, or a different boot/screw-on carb mouth available somewhere?
The most basic thing I can think of is to use a bit of radiator hose and jam it into the airbox opening and just use a hose clamp on the carb (maybe even remove the screw-on mouth) but that just seems janky for what MUST be a pretty common problem.

On my slider with the vertical Minarelli, it was a nightmare getting that boot on. So I just left in on. Used to undo the two air box mounts. Then undo the carb from the reed valve. Then take it off as one unit. Also did the same on the BWS. My son used to struggle with it too. Till I said I didn't take it off.
