What's up guys. Took my scoot to work today and nocited the scoot was kind of pitter puttering a little bit. I am low on fuel so maybe that's a factor but i did notice my bike was idling very very low. And when I got to work i wanted to see where the idle was and it wouldn't stay running. What could cause the idle to change all of the sudden? I didn't touch or change anything on the carb. Is it dirty? Or just needs turned up.

cleaned the carb. fired right up. still seeing the low idle. i turned the idle screw in a little bit and didnt see much change in idle. but turning the idle screw in made the bike start running poorly. on the way home from work i noticed from turning the idle screw in i have the hanging rpms when slowing. so i turned the idle screw back down before tearing the carb off. got the carb back on. still low idle so like i said i turned it up i tad and didnt notice much with idle speed. so i turned the air mix screw out maybe a 8th turn and the idle started going up a bit. i have it idling at around 950 to 1000 rpms roughly. i will take it around the block tomorrow after work. in the mean time if you guys have any input that be great.

I hope I'm not making dumb suggestions that you already know or have tried.
Temperature changes can make some impacts but that doesn't seem like your issue.
Do you have a foam air filter inside the airbox? Is it seated correctly? Is it possible it's not tight in place? Is it clogged/dirty?
I think hanging RPMs when slowing sometimes means you're not getting enough air or at least that the A/F mix is a bit off.
I would think you'd want your idle speed much higher, but I don't know what scooter you're riding.
I usually unscrew the A/F screw until RPMs stops increasing at idle.

i have a baccio vx50. its a 50cc 2 stroke. I hope I'm not making dumb suggestions that you already know or have tried. Temperature changes can make some impacts but that doesn't seem like your issue. The idle screw should not make it run worse. All it does is lift the slide in the carb. Giving the effect of turning the throttle. Are you sure you haven't adjusted the mixture screw by mistake?

idle on a 1e40qmb should be closer to 2000

idle on a 1e40qmb should be closer to 2000 but maybe your tach is set to 4stroke mode? i think that would halve the actual rpm on a 2 stroke.

nevermind, i think that would double it not halve it. oops.

i would delete or consolidate those posts if i could...
Have you checked airbox?
Could your carb have gone bad?

I can differ which one is which. Im actually messing with it as we speak. It sesms like if i turn up the idle with the idle screw. It idles fine but when i ride it almost keeps the throttle open when im slowing down. I've been turning the air screw out a tiny to my bit and my idle is still all screwed up. It almost surges. It idles near 2. Then it idles near 1000. Sometimes it dies on me. Some times it will idle all day. Im really confused with this thing. And the other day i noticed a strong gas smell and my carb was just leaking out of the drain hole or whatever it's called. And the screw to let it bleed was all the way tight. I don't get it man. Lol The idle screw should not make it run worse. All it does is lift the slide in the carb. Giving the effect of turning the throttle. Are you sure you haven't adjusted the mixture screw by mistake?

It sounds like you have some fuelling issue, or a possible air leak.

i have my fuel controlled manually if you wanna put it that way. i have a shut off valve to bypass the diaphragm. It sounds like you have some fuelling issue, or a possible air leak.

This. I quite had pretty much the exact same issues the OP is having this weekend, on my qmb139.
I swapped out the main jet for the next size up, and afterward the idle was screwed up.
In my case, not only was the vacuum fuel valve kaput, after much adjusting and swearing, I finally noticed that the actual vacuum line was leaking badly, even though the line was less than a year old.
So it may be worth checking out any of the places that could be leaking.

Where are some good spots to check that aren't 100% obvious for leaks.
