Maybe I'm missing something but how can a roller weight affect top speed? I can see how it affects acceleration but your top speed is more determined by gearing isn't it? I have. 72cc scoot and have used 5g, 7g and 8g weights....guess what! Same top speed with all weights. The acceleartion was affected, that's it. Am I missing something?

they effect your rpm and sometimes too light of weights will give you high rpm and the weights wont be heavy enough to push the variator right out on the drive boss loosing you top speed. and too heavy weights have you starting pretty much straight away in the second gear which gives you very slow take off the line speeds and will take a long time to climb up to your top speed if you find a road long enough to let you

Then how can you explain the speed being the same with 5, 6 and 8 gram weights.

because even the lightest of the weights you own is enough to fully push your vartiator out and as you said acceleartion was effected which is what they mostly effect. roller weights are part of a long list of parts that effect gearing, changing just one will make some different but you need a combo of things to make great changes.
The final gears are what will change alot but having the power to pull the new ratios is important too because a 10% upgear will give you 10% top speed but it will take 10% extra power to reach it and that same 10% power to keep your lower down acceleration.

What can I do to increase my top speed at this point? I'm pretty frustrated. I have a 72bbk, uni filter, new carb, #88 main jet, unlimited rev Cdi and a lot of roller weights. I'm only hitting 38 mph! Haha

well not 100% sure when I rebuild my 72cc I've got a brand new variator a shorter drive boss new weights and might lighten my clutch. and after all of that I may gear up if I feel I need to after I tune my CVT I'm hoping to reach 45-50 gps mph after I finish up but we shall see because some 139QMB are just better than others and they come with different gear ratios it appears too. Brent is forever linking this so I'll do his job for him makes for a good read 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=4ttech&action=display&thread=407

There's a lot of mis-information on the web. Weights don't change speed unless they are too light. Too heavy and the scoot will act like a car with a manual trans stuck in 3rd gear. Since red-line RPM and the gearing in the back is the same then top speed stays the same. Lighter wights make it quicker, not faster.

You use variator weights to adjust your rpm through the range. Here's a good article. scooterunderground.ca/knowledge/faq/CVTScooterTransmission.htm About 6500 through the range is what your shooting for. That is untill you reach the upper limit of the variator. Then it will decrease. RD

What can I do to go above 38mph then? I guess the gear kit on scrappy dog is my last hope. Ugh!

best advice he could of given you there. 150cc are faster stock if you just want some speed and no involvement buy a 150cc
I started with a little 50cc for fun and wanted to tinker and fiddle with it make it my own and see how far I can gain and push the tiny shoot. thats why I didnt go with a bigger engine standard.

You should be faster than 38mph. Do you have the large frame 50cc? Did you put a stiff torqe spring in the clutch? You can get taller tires and put the stock air box back on. The A9 cam helped my BBK quite a bit.
