Petcock improved but not resolved. Replaced again with a manual petcock, problem solved.
Muffler is much quieter with the baffle. Just for fun, I may try one at the other end.
Added a thin washer on the front axle to resolve a clearance issue… cured.
Did some work on the wiring today. Seems like each time I get an additional circuit wired in, one of the previously functioning circuits decides to act up. More late nights in the shop await.
I think an ice cream run with the daughter is in the cards for tonight.

ofcourse ! its always like that. life is life.
when i converted my 8 pole to 11 pole stator ( believing people saying its better for charging at idle. but its not at all ), i also changed the full wiring harness. NIGHTMARE ! had many wire to redo because ads said it was for a scooter, but didnt include anything for headlight, brake light, and speedometer and bla bla bla ( everything on the handlebar ). fixed brake light, then charging was no more. fixed charging, turn signal was no more. fixed turn signal, charging was no more once again.... wasted a whole week like that.
but that was mine... apart from this world like everything related to me... but yours will do better i know it.
i really liked your fuse/junction box tho.

My son and my wife’s brother came to our place tonight. Those two and my wife went out and rented electric (assist) bicycles and rode our town’s wonderful bike/walking trail system. While they did that, I slaved over a hot stove cooking the evening meal for the family. Before their bike ride, my brother-in-law and my son both took the newly built scooter out for a spin on one of the roads out of town that goes right by our house. They both were captivated by the new ride. After we got done eating all of us went for a ride around town. I rode the new scoot with my daughter on the back. About half way through the ride, I traded scoots with my son so he and his sister were riding together. My son had been leaning towards my wife’s camp of disliking the new ride and wondering what the purpose was of building such a monstrosity. After riding a bit more, I was riding beside my son and he said to me, “Now I get it”. We had to make a quick pit stop for fuel and I asked my son to convince his mother to try it out… she seems to like him more than she likes me. She was reluctant but agreed to humor him. I knew enough to just keep my mouth shut. I also knew enough to not gloat by taking pictures so I had my son and brother-in-law do the picture taking. I think with the help of my son that she may come around to liking it. Since getting it running and on the road, she has heard nothing but high praise from all who have seen it. I’ll just continue to keep my mouth shut and let other people bring her around to loving it.

Lots of smiles in those pics, I'd say they are loving it!

That’s awesome. We see so many builds that make us (the builders) happy, but not many for the whole family to enjoy. The bike looks really good with people on it. It doesn’t look like someone tried to make a scooter look like a motorcycle. It looks like a motorcycle… and with your wife and daughter riding it looks like the right scale. A great success in my book.

Here’s an interesting issue I never would have thought would happen…
Last night, I installed the front fender. It had already been fitted to the bike before painting so no problems were expected here. I rode the bike to work this morning and noticed that it was standing very straight on the kick stand, not the nice lean that I had built in. Did some jumping around and found that the forks were not rebounding out after compression. Hmmm… did I tweak them when I added the thin washer/spacer to get the brake disk off the caliper bracket? That was my first guess.
Tonight I pulled the axle to shave a bit off the other side’s spacer to alleviate the perceived problem. Pulled the axle, dropped the wheel enough to drop the spacers out but still no rebound on the forks.
Hmmm… I guess I’ll have to completely pull the front wheel. To get the wheel off, I need to pull the fender. I loosened the clamps that attach the fender to the fork and the fork popped out to full extension!!
Now confident that the spacers are ok, I reassemble the wheel/spacers/axle and then snug up the clamps for the fender and soon discovered that any pressure on those clamps I used will stop those forks from moving. I think I’m committed to using this clamp system if I don’t want to completely remake the fender and mounts but I will need to do something different to hold these clamps in place with a bare minimum of torque on the mounting bolts.

Maybe fab some spacer sleeves between the clamps for a light squeeze when tightened and epoxy or loctite bearing mount the clamps to the legs?

I would call this build a tremendous success. Just a few niggles to sort out, which you always get on builds. The finish line is in sight. 👍

Made a bracket today for mounting the speed sensor and got that all up and running! Read a lot of reviews on Amazon on how hard it was to program the gauge/speedo to the tire size to get it accurate. It goes by tire circumference (easy lookup on the interweb) and pulse count ( how many magnets are flying by the sensor each revolution). I programmed in those digits and compared to the GPS speedo on my phone, it seems to be right on. I’m guessing that there are a lot of inept folks leaving reviews. The only feature that is left to activate on the instrument panel that the bike has is fuel. I really want this to work on the gauge. I am thinking about prying the money out of my wallet for an ultrasonic fuel level sensor to see if it will work/function.

Got the rear fender front mounting bracket reworked ( had to add 3/8” to make the tire not rub ), painted and installed with the rear fender. Also, had to remake the muffler bracket as the cheap Chinese one broke when I hit a good bump this morning. The one I made is considerably more substantial. Hooked up the autochoke yesterday, not only does it start better, it seems to idle better too?? Tomorrow, I plan on driving around with a multimeter attached to strategic wires to try to sort out the headlight. Once that is figured out, we are 100% mechanically!!!

Tonight, I got the headlight sorted out. Seems like the rec/reg was causing issues because replacing it fixed my blown headlight problem. Took it for a short night cruise and no turn signals😡. Pretty sure I just knocked a connection loose when I was dinking around with the wires. Here’s the bones for the next build. Basically, I bought the cool 12” rims and got a few extra parts to go with it. Not quite sure what it will be yet. Probably stay with the 139QMB motor but add a big bore kit. This one has dual shocks already so it has the right side swing arm that already fits the motor. I’m thinking a Bobber or a Cafe Racer at this point. And will probably go with some taller/fatter tires to improve the ride comfort.

Mounted the left saddlebag. I think this went a long way toward making the seat look less like such a dominating feature. I cut up the part that would typically go under the seat and across the bike and re-sewed the straps directly to the bag. 2 Footman loops installed on each side directly to the side skirt of the seat pan and the bag buckles directly to the Footman loops.

Today, I cut out the vinyl and sewed it for the blue/black marbled seat! I need to heat up the T-nuts that mount the Footman loops for the bags so they sit flush… they are currently preventing the seat from being fully seated on the frame. I also plan on adding a little “island” of the HDPE plastic under the loops to match the thickness of the side foam so that the loops can be mounted tight and I can still get the straps of the bags through the loops. Then I’ll be able to staple on the vinyl. I also remade one of the rear fender mounts as the weld broke on the original. I got it in there deep this time. The new mount (at the rear of the fender) has introduced a rattle at the front of the rear fender. I’ll have to stuff something in there. In other news, the last 3 nights my wife has gone for a ride around town with me riding on the back of the bike😳. I think she may be coming around.
