Ok… I’m not quite feeling this. To my eye, this is treading very close to the look of a minibike. I think the front half of the seat pan needs to slope down and back to tie into the lines of the tank rather than being flat like it is now. What say you?

It’s only 5/8” of drop at the back of the front seat but I think it’s an improvement over both steps being flat. I believe that I will go with these lines but weld the frame on an inch or so lower and then I can tweak the lines with the cushion.

One more try…. I lowered and angled the front seat even more. Definitely takes it out of minibike territory. Just for reference, the yellow thing in the background is a 24” level.

Got the main runners of the seat framework tacked in. Now I’ll make some cross members and other supports to weld in to make it sturdy. Possibility of 325lb load on this (not my wife…my fat butt with my daughter on back).

I thought this bike looked big until I saw this… I’m 6’2”, 220lbs. I think my wife will be more proportioned to this…it is for her after all😎

Daughter is 3” shorter than my wife. She fits the bike a lot better than I do.

really nice build and nice job. will that beast be 72cc/47mm or more ? where is the gas tank from ? did you change the steering/fork angle from stock ? what are you going to run for headlight tail light and blinker ? what style of speedometer are you going to run ? there is one thing i would personally do to this build, the rest is PERFECT to my taste. i would use the good ole style fuel gauge. no idea what its called but thats what im talking about. damn boy even the tire/wheel combo fit really well. for once a stretch isnt disgusting. well done !

I would consider that a “sight glass” but it may have a proper name.

Although it’s wearing a 50cc motor so far, I’m about to fit it with a 125cc. Re-working a rim to fit the new engine ( documented in my “let’s make a wheel” thread. I’ve also decided that I’m going to make my own real triple tree after all. I ordered a set of tubes which will come via big brown truck later this week. When I weld in the new tube for the steering stem, I’ll probably match it pretty close to the current rake. I’ll be lowering the top of the steering assembly… although I like where the handlebar grips are, I don’t like how tall the top of the stem is. Lighting will all be pretty standard motorcycle stuff. Going for a look that is more motorcycle-ish and not so scooter-esque. I bought a speedo/multi gauge from Amazon. It has tach, speedo, odo, lighting status, gear status, and fuel. I’m want to figure out how to install a fuel level sensor in the tank but I’m not there yet.

thanks for your reply. yeah i saw that thread. thats too much work for me haha. also i didnt know wheel were different. maybe i'm fucked up with my plan, to find non oddball wheel ( rear 13 inch AND disc brake ) so i can swap in standard wheel. i cant find the answer if drum and disc case fit the engine or if they're different. and if so, if i need to change the shaft. for the fuel gauge, i suggest you looking for a boat fuel level sensor. they are universal. they should work with most fuel gauge since they're 2 wire sensor. www.amazon.com/Sending-240-33ohm-Marine-Sensor-Stainless/dp/B082NLZ14R/can i see your gauge please ?

One of my personal mottos is, “Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing”. Working on the mounts for the fuel tank. The rear mount wants to be rubber mounted but also, the front of the seat pan will sit over top of the mount. I want the mounting hardware to sit as low as possible. I searched the hardware store for a solution but didn’t find exactly what I wanted. I bought a rubber grommet to mount on the tank and a coupling nut to weld into the frame. For a mounting screw, I chose a socket head cap screw. Not the shortest head screw one can find but I came up with a plan. Using my 90 year-old lathe, I crafted this fancy washer… The head of the cap screw sits down into the recess and makes for a low profile mount.

Here’s the rubber mount and cobbled together washer mounted on the tank. I took a little time this evening and removed the stops at the top of the holes in the fork clamps so that the new, longer forks could slide through. I’m liking the look of this. I had to move the tank back about 1-1/2” to keep the forks from hitting the tank but I think it will all work out. Now I need to figure out if I’m going to… A) Make a “fake” top clamp that connects to the fork tubes but not to the top of the stem. B) Make a real top clamp that connects to the fork tubes and steering stem and try to match the existing rake angle. C) Make a whole new triple clamp.

good work once again buddy.
if opinions matter to you, here is mine. the fork rake.... too much is NOT cool. i like it the way it is now and maybe a little bit much. its not cool and you lose ability to do tither turn. it would become like a ford torus where mechanic have to try 4-5 time to get it on the lift when they have to turn. terrible turn radius. worse than 4x4 truck.
the speedo... to me it doesnt fit the style of the bike. its a nice one tho
keep up the good work i cant wait for the next step

No turning back now! I cut the top and bottom off of the steering tube. It’s now a titch over 4” shorter, mostly off the top. One of the many mods I’m doing to make this thing look less moped-ey and more motorcycle-ish.
