I've been riding my 46J scooter almost daily since 2016 and I'm wondering if it's time to just give up and retire it or if it's possible to still salvage the poor abused machine. Unfortunately whoever designed this particular scooter didn't have maintenance in mind. The gas tank is right above the carburetor and there are a plethora of hoses going everywhere; many of which I feel are redundant or even unnecessary. Anyway, the real problem with it at this point is that it will start and idle, but as soon as the throttle is pulled beyond ~10% the transmission box makes an unusual noise and the scooter immediately dies. I took the belt cover off and the belt is intact so know I'm not sure what else to check and I can't find any local mechanics that work on this type of scooter. Even worse, even if I could find a mechanic I wouldn't have a way to get the scooter to them. I've changed the gear oil twice since I first got the scooter so I'm fairly certain it has gear oil in it. So is the scooter destined to be retired? Follow up question. Is there a scooter of equivalent size to the 46J that is perhaps higher than 150cc and uses EFI instead of a carburetor that I should look into getting to replace my 46J? I looked into the Vitacci Clash 200 EFI and while it has a lot of nice features, the overall size of the vehicle just feels like a major step down from my 46J.

If you take the belt off can you give it throttle without dying?
Can you spin the rear wheel by hand? Does that make any weird noises? Can it be wiggled side to side (as in a bearing went out)?

Thanks for your reply. With my recent work schedule I haven't had time to tinker with the scooter for a while, but I was able to run a few tests today. Yes, without the belt attached the scooter runs and revs without issue. The back tire doesn't seem to wiggle but I did notice with rolling the scooter to a different part of my yard where I could work on it, there was a swishing sound coming from the back. I can't really fully test the back tire as with the jack I have and all the weight being in the back, when I jack it up the front end lifts up instead. Something I did notice when trying to get the belt back onto the clutch, per videos I've seen of other scooters there's supposed to be slack in the belt when the clutch is fully open, however in my case even with the clutch open and the belt as far in as it could go I wasn't able to slide the other end of the belt over the motor. At this point I'm thinking it could either be a belt issue or something with the sprockets and bearings behind the clutch that might be out of whack. I've included some photos showing the lack of slack in the belt.

Wow,how many miles are on the belt ?? That is not supposed to be that much room on the belt. Never seen a belt be able to actually slide over the variator before
