Are the cheaper kits no good?
I see some huge price variance in different kits that have the same stuff.

You get what you pay for generally. I wouldn't buy a cheap eBay/Amazon kit. Something like a Naraku is a reasonably priced reasonable quality kit. Some are cheaper because they use the old head.

If I'm starting with a Chinese scooter...inat that the quality that comes stock? Basically equivalent to buying a cheap kit? You get what you pay for generally. Hopefully the scooter had some sort of quality control. After all they want to sell you a running, working scooter. The kits might not have so much. Have seen a lot of quality issues with cheap kits over the years. There have been two stroke big bore kits, that make less power than the original 50cc cylinder. You might get lucky, but for me, I only want to build it once.

Yes I agree. What's best balance.of coat and quality brand in your opinion? If I'm starting with a Chinese scooter...inat that the quality that comes stock? I was pleased with a Naraku 70cc 2t kit. Ran fine. Upgrade carb also if you’re able to. Don’t skimp on the rod bearing. I ruined two kits by trying to save $20
If you save up a few dollars the cast iron Stage6 kit runs very well with an aftermarket pipe
