Sad, but so true! Between the three bikes I've had, I know how to check for gas leaks, the symptoms of a cracked cylinder sleeve, when your piston rings are going south, when your cam chain (and/or tensioner) is going south, what a shift star looks like and how much it costs, how to check for vacuum leaks, why tubed tires are better than tubeless, why it's important to check bolts and screws occasionally, and why carburetors just suck. Mostly, that carburetors just really suck. *bangs head against wall* :banghead:
Here's me hating my carburetor:
It reminds me of this classic:
We've all been there!

It would be great if the darn things would answer when you ask What? and Why? Yes we all know that feeling when you really hope it starts up again and just gets you a little farther, maybe at least over that hill, and home if your lucky

I don't ask mine questions, just curse them when they break down. Then I ask myself why and/or how am I gonna get home. Be careful, if you punch Chinese plastic you might just end up more angry when it cracks. lol

Tomorrow is a big day for the new scoot! Here's a short list:
-Pull carb and clean it -Install new battery -Install new turn signals -Install new handlebar -Install bar-end mirrors -Change oil -Bleed brake lines, clean pads and rotors, fresh brake fluid -Remove stupid "gixxer" stickers -Clean spark plug (since I can't find a new one yet) -Film epic test ride of epicness! (assuming we can get it running this time.. lol)
The "shop work" will be filmed, too. Should be a fun day of home brewed beer and wrenching.

Didn't get to the handlebar (and, therefore, the mirrors) or the brakes. Or the stickers. LOL Cleaned the carb, the air filter, and the spark plug. Changed the oil and put in a new battery. Replaced turn signals, but they won't work yet, as the relay is busted. No biggie for now. Starts like a champ, first kick! Carb is so clean that it will keep the engine running (slow but steady), even if you bog the idle down to 800 rpm. :thumb: Lots of footage was taken. Videos to come up in the next few days.

It's good stuff! I hate beer, and I like this guy's beer. Or, I can tolerate it. I don't gag on it. LOL Beer has many medicinal qualities and I tolerate it quite well without much complaint also. Here's to our good health.

You guys will LOVE this:
-The guy thought the bike had no battery. It did. It was just dead. LOL
-I'm pretty sure he had NEVER changed the oil, and I mean never. Pretty sure that what little bit was still in there was the original factory/shipping oil. There was barely an eighth of a quart in there, it was the consistency of black sludge, and it was FULL of metal shavings. Again: LOL
-He wasn't really sure how to operate the choke and apparently rode a lot with it on. The spark plug was dark black and oily. More LULZ
-The air filter was soaked in oil AND gas. And filthy.
-The pilot jet was so clogged, you couldn't see ANY light through it. The float bowl was quite varnished.
As you can imagine, the bike runs MUCH better now... as in, it actually runs. Still sorting through footage from the day.
Yes, I do my own wrenching. A friend is helping me with this project, as the bike was purchased just blocks from his house and is not quite yet rideable.
