Test drove a silver wing today. Left hand brake is linked front and rear, that is nice. This one had aftermarket, stainless exhaust, Michelin, tires, slightly drippy underneath. Engine braking under deceleration is significant, much different from a small scooter. It is heavy, not nearly as nimble or light on its feet as a small scooter. I did expect it, but it’s just a very different feeling. Guy who is selling it is 82 years old, had it for six years. It rode nice, started stopped, did everything it was supposed to do. I felt like a noob again though. Reminded me of my first trip on my stock engine scooter.
Upon looking around it’s a full LeoVance exhaust, tubular header He’s asking 3250 and it has 12,500 miles on it

Nice. If you think it feels exceedingly heavy, maybe see if you can get a test ride on one of the others on your list before you decide. Even if you go visit a dealer and get a couple of models off the stand, maybe that would give you some perspective.
Maybe see if you can find anything about common leaks on those or take a good look under it if you're afraid it's a deal breaker. My TMAX will leave a spot under it after pretty much every ride, but it's the overflow from the gearbox and has done it as long as I've had it. Small scoots often do the same. Maybe it's something simple like that if you're lucky.

The oil was all crusty but the drain plug had a fresh drip. Most of the wet area had caked on dust/oil mix from years of accumulation. I checked weight of the Shadow 750, Harley 883, silverwing 600. 496, 550 and 501 lbs respectively

I shouldn’t judge the oil leak too harshly, I was in the guys garage and the floor was not bad.

Some bikes carry their weight better than others. Pushing the 7R round after the GSX it felt about seventy kilos more. But to ride, once moving didn't make such a difference. The same with the 1250 bandit. It's only going very slowly you really notice it. Though that was a very heavy bike. I'm guessing most scooters will carry their weight quite low. So should be less noticeable. I'm not a fan of linked brakes, though a lot of small bikes have them here now. It's cheaper than ABS. I just don't like the idea of riding in very icy conditions where I only want the rear. And it applies the front causing a slide. For a first big bike though it might prove useful. Go and look at as many different bikes as you can. It will help narrow down what you want.

Low tire pressure gives a heavy/sluggish feeling on bikes also..

Sold. I resisted the urge. I didn’t feel 100% about it so I waffled. I logically also hated to buy a pristine beauty just to drop it.

Don't let concerns of dropping one stop you unless you're just uncomfortable with the bike totally You'll prob be just fine. Besides... you can have one for years and be used to it and catch a patch of something slick or sand/gravel when you go to put your foot down. That stuff has almost got me numerous times on the TMAX. I can only imagine what some of the really big bikes must be like. I'm not helping, am I? 😳

2007 Majesty 400 here, $2K 11K miles is that a good deal?
On another note, the wife dropped her Indian in the driveway Saturday. She forgot to put the side stand down, no injuries to her, bike suffered a broken clutch lever and scratches on saddle bag and blinker.

Lucky she had the bags fitted. We've all been there at some point. I usually walk away to see it fall over! 😬
