I had an awful launch when I tried to tighten my adjustable clutch for a higher rpm take off. when I moved it back, launch was fine. maybe you have too tight of clutch springs? I couldn't even move until I sat there revving it for a few seconds or until I pedalled it if uphill.

Spent some time Monday tuning. I changed out the polini variator to a Keli I found that was not too buggered up, also changed the drive face and used the SEF ramp plate. Things instantly improved to almost wheele status at launch. I thought I found the magic combination so I set out on a ride. The scoot was even faster at top speed but almost immediately the CVT started acting up, it felt like it would not shift down to a lower gear, launch was right back to being terrible. I turned around and got it back to the shop. Checked the CVT over and decided to go to a white Malossi contra spring to help with downshifting. Went on a test run and launch was back to awesome for three launches, then it went to hell again. So bad in fact that I thought I must have caved the piston on the longer test ride I went on earlier. So I pulled the shrouds and pipe off and took a good look and feel of the piston through the exhaust port, everything seems fine. I have no clue what is going on with the CVT. Possibly I used the wrong set of groves in the torque driver? So if anyone has any thoughts please share. Anyhow when I get a moment I will likely put the V8 pipe on or weld up the TK pipe and put it back on. The PG short is so loud anyway.

check out your cvt and make sure theres no signs of any thing going wrong. How tight is the belt? has it ALWAYS done this, or did you change something to the cvt recently? Check the plastic slide guides for gouging or make sure there not broke or cracked, make sure the variator hasn't been dug into any cause it will tend for the slides to gravitate to that area and break them again, breaking in the first place is what would of caused metal on metal to make a gouge. check your driven pulleys and make sure theres no slop in between. those are the places that start showing problems first.

Spent the last few days welding up a couple cracks in the TK pipe. Then I got a little crazy and cleaned most of the rust and old paint from the pipe and gave it a fresh coat of high temp black paint. I installed it this morning and then went for a test ride. All I can say is wow! What a difference a pipe can make. I did nothing to anything else, only changed the pipe. Launch is great, low end is great and top end is still very very good. As far as I am concerned the PG Short is very short on performance. I am not quite turning the RPM's at the top end using the TK that I was when using the PG Short however I am running just as fast, actually faster with the TK pipe so..... There is still a small amount of tuning to be done, I may need 1 size larger MJ and the CVT might even get better with a few tweaks.

It's amazing how different pipes can perform on a two stroke.

I have been riding this as much as possible for a few days, what a blast! The Corsa kit definetly brings more power to the table than the Taiwan 48mm kit did. The Corsa paired to this TK pipe it is a joy to ride. I lightened up the rollers just a bit and RPM's are back up to around 9350 at wot when it gets wound out. I can't seem to get the speedo app to work but top speed has to be around 62-64 because I have never seen the speedo needle on the scoot over that far. I have not changed anything on the carb, not sure I need to. Here is the pipe after I finished with it. This setup reminds me of my stage6 streetrace cylinder on my old minarelli powered Vento clone scooter, just slightly faster on the Kymco.

I pulled the front wheel off today to balance it. It was way out of balance due to the very heavy, metal valve stem I used to replace the old one. I ended up cutting some bushings to allow the 12mm front axle to fit into the bearings of my homemade balancing setup. I took a short test ride to make sure it was better than when I started. This week is the Carolina Country Music Fest here. I guess this is our biggest event for the year, and it brings plenty of people here for the event. I am going to go for a ride shortly and hope I dont have to cut it short to go do a service call.

I read the first five words and got really excited, with my brain going straight to "Scott's doing wheelies!!!". Then I read the rest. Next time I want to read "I pulled the front wheel UP". You know I don't normally discipline good members on the forum, but I might have to. 😁 DISCLAIMER : Don't ever do wheelies. They're dangerous. I would never encourage such acts.

ROLF Actually I may have this one pulling wheelies (on a closed course with full safety gear of course) if I can get the CVT figured out. I am not sure what is going on or what the remedy will be. I'll post more about it later, when I am done riding this evening.

More tuning and test runs yesterday and today in between service calls. I tried a softer/stock contra spring and lighter weights. RPM's went up to 9900 and overall the scoot felt less snappy and seemed to have a lower top speed. I am pretty sure that somewhere just over 9K is the strongest point for this motor/pipe combo. I went back to the white Malossi contra spring and slightly heaver weights than I originally used with the white spring and somehow RPM's were a bit higher than they were previously with the same setup. Overall I like how the scooter is now, I would just like a little more omph on the launch. I slapped the rear body panels back on this scoot today. Carb tuning is pretty much done and CVT can be easily tuned with the panels in place. The carb has a ever so slightly lean spot around 7/8 throttle, just the way I like it. The only thing in the CVT that may need attention is the clutch, I noticed half of one of the pads in the Dr Pulley clutch is delaminated a bit. I will probably just ride it until it gives out, if it ever does. Below is the current setup info. I dont know if I have mentioned it before, but I recently found a Bando S09-003 721-18-30 belt that is slightly longer than the stock Kymco belt and a hell of a lot cheaper. It seems to help with the unused travel on the rear pulley that has always been there when using the stock Kymco belt. Stock Kymco belt as measured by me = 717-17.75-30

I have not been riding this scoot due to working on the 120cc naked Kymco setup. However today I rode it to the warehouse so I could install a expansion pipe I got from Scootetuning.ca during a recent sale. I wanted to see what the polini corsa would do with a true expansion chamber pipe. The pipe was very cheap price wise especially since it was on sale, but the overall build quality is pretty good and it fit the scoot pretty well after a little fiddling. I made a couple runs without changing a thing and so far it is working well. It is strong on the low end like the TK pipe but the top end is stronger than the TK pipe is. Top speed is still around 60 at about 9600 RPM. I think the CVT is in need of slightly lighter weights. I will post some time slips when I can but it will be a while, we have some very krappy weather coming up.
