Update. So it was a catastrophic failure of the seal on the variator side. I opened it up and the seal was in shreds. Will pop in a new seal and all should be good.

Wow glad you found it; posting that will be a great help to others. Makes a guy wonder what destroyed the seal like that.

As others have mentionned, is there fuel coming from the gas tank? You can disconnect the hose from the carb that interacts with the petcock, if you suck on it, fuel should start coming out.

Wow glad you found it; posting that will be a great help to others. Makes a guy wonder what destroyed the seal like that. Not sure what caused it. The seal failed in 2 places. The spring that hugs the crank was out of the seal and the seal was also out of its race in the cases. That leads me to believe that the seal was not installed correctly at the factory. Somehow it just took 2000 miles for it to completely back its way out of the race and fail. Since the failure happened after sitting for a year, I am betting that the seal probably "stuck" to the crank and when the crank turned over it dislodged the seal and created the massive vacuum leak. That's my best guess from that I can see. Thanks all for your suggestions.
