Just bought this thing for $200. Rode fine for a few days then it started screeching high pitch gear grind on deceleration. Almost sounds like kick start is lightly grazing flywheel. Any help? Mechanically inclined but never messed with 50cc scooter before. Thanks in advance

If you have not done so, check the level of gear lube in the final drive gearbox. The filler is on the side of the case, almost at the very rearmost position, between two other case bolts. It should be full to the point of drooling if the plug is removed. If run low or run without gear lube, it will die. The bearings will cook and start to fall apart. That will ruin the gear mesh. There is a YT video, or on site, showing the replacement of all those bits. Expensive. If it is not the gearbox, it could be pieces inside the CVT case. The starter Bendix can flop around and possibly stay partially engaged if gummed up. Assuming the oil level in the crankcase is within range, the CVT and final drive are the likely suspects. You could have some noise from the brakes from a rock/something getting into the rear drum that flops around as you slow, or the caliper or rotor could be loose or ??? I bought one where the caliper fell off the front strut. The bolts were captured, so adding some Loctite and re-installing fixed what I thought was going to be an expensive repair. Check that your caliper is not flopping in the least, and if it is, tighten the mounting bolts. tom
