I recently cleaned my stock genuine roughhouse sport 50 carb. It started running weird after fuelling from a different can. My idle jet was very clogged. Cleaned all jets with jet cleaners. Sprayed carb cleaner in every orifice. All were clear. Reassembled and no start. Checked spark plug and it was dry. Disassembled and rechecked everything, especially the float needle, all good. Still no start. Resorted to starting fluid. Will start and Rev on SF but still no fuel. I checked the vacuum petcock and it is working. I don't know what to do next! Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Could it be as simple as getting the vacuum and fuel lines mixed up? If not I would connect the fuel line to the carb. Then suck on the vacuum line. You should be able to hear fuel entering the carb. You could also try connecting a pipe to the fuel connection. Then blowing through it. With the float down, you should easily be able to blow through the pipe.

Did you run a wire through the jets? Carb spray won't clean a solid block in the idle jet.

Thanks guys. Yes I sucked the vacuum tube with fuel line off and on to test petcock. I can spray starting fluid in air/fuel hole, air filter intake hole, with or without air filter and scoter will fire. The only thing I haven't tried is to leave vacuum line attached and disconnect fuel line and spray starting fluid in fuel line below fuel filter to see if scooter fires and fuel comes through filter. Just thought of this lying in bed this morning. Will try tonight when I get home.

Please try cleaning it following this method. When you get to the jets be sure to run a small wire through them. It ma take some soaking in carb cleaner. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/363

Thanks Pinkskoot. I did follow this process, and videos by rolling wrench, scooter swapshop and others. I'm going to repeat the process this weekend. Something may have found a way in when I reassembled it. I appreciate the link and this site I have read many of the technical threads.

Two weeks later . . . Lol. I found Most of my problems were from the float needle. When I'd hook the fuel line up to the carb, it would get fuel. When I put the float bowl on it would not get fuel. However; during this long journey I have found questions I would like answered My needle does not have 5 grooves and c clip. Can I replace it with one if needed in the future? When I removed everything from the carb, I could shake it and hear a rattle inside, normal? I can't separate my main jet from the atomizer, I don't see this as a problem?? I've read that this carb is ok for a BBK, true??? Thanks for any answers. After comparing my card with the step by step cleaning process offered by 49 scoot, mt carb seems more simplistic design. Learned a lot. Thanks

You could use the stock carb for a big bore kit. You just need to adjust the jetting. The main jet holds the atomiszer in on most carbs. I'm not sure what style of needle your carb has. But I have always swapped needles in carbs. As long as it's the same style it should be okay. You would need to measure yours. Some have used small shims to raise the needle height on none adjustable needles before.

Thanks aeroxbud. I was just surprised to find my needle had a flat top with no adjustment. There is a spring on top, but it still looks as if a needle with a c clip would still work. People say these are good carbs, I want to run it as long as I can

Can someone please tell me what I did wrong and why my carb is spitting fuel out the air intake side of my carb?

Ever changed/checked your reeds?

No. I can and maybe should, all my problems started with a simple carb cleaning. The reason was it started acting up a little immediately after fueling.

Definitely check the reeds. They should have no light visible through them if you hold them to the light.
