I picked up a 150 this morning. The guy said it needed a top end and provided a new piston/cylinder with gaskets. I removed the top end to find that the piston had a huge hole in it and was no longer connected to the rod. The rod is bent too but even if it wasn't bent I would still have to tear the engine completely apart cause there's huge chunks of metal in there. I called the guy and he's going to buy the engine from that $50 Touring scoot I bought a while back for $125 and I'm going to put the new piston and cylinder on that. Anyway, I thought I'd share this because I've never seen a 4T get a holed piston like that. It completely broke away from the rod. I drained the oil and about a half a quart came out and the plug was dark so I'm thinking it got too hot due to insufficient oil not because it was too lean on fuel but I'm not sure... The cylinder got mangled too.

That is some achievement, I've holed pistons before, but not that big!
I have snapped the con rod on a 139QMB before, I've still got it now as a trophy lol

That is what this picture reminded me of. Back in the mid 80's and all the RD350 pistons we holed lol

I forgot to mention that the piston pin was sheared in half. One piece was in the rod and the other half of it is inside the engine.

Incredible. I'm wondering if the piston might have had casting flaws to begin with for all of that to happen.

With a bent rod....and the size/shape of the hole....looks a double valve hit....odd. Talk about a 'Grenaded' engine...wow... Sorry to see that....it sux..... :stars:
