Well I was out Riding this morning well on my way back home I get pulled over the officer asked does that thing have a speedometer I said yes he asks does it work I was like yea I wasn't looking at the speedometer he goes did you see me setting down the road he said when you came through the first time you was doing 40 and when coming back he clocked me at 37 in a 25. He took my license and checked it then he said I thought those topped out at 35 I was like I did to. luckily he wasn't on the other side road the speedometer was buried. but anyway he let me go with a warning told me I have to obey the same laws as other vehicles I already know this. I guess next time I will get a speeding ticket

That's pretty good to get a warning for the same cop seeing you speed 2x in a row by that much.

no I don't have a license just i.d sorry Here in NC if you go over 30 mph then the scooter is then magically a motorcycle and all rules apply so they can charge you with no registration, no insurance and driving without a license. I would expect the rules are the same there so be careful.

Here is Indiana scooters are technically illegal to operate for anyone without a valid MC endorsement. I went though the "hoops" a few years back, the last time Skeedr went for a real ride. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=genchat&thread=824&page=1Thankfully because of the way the laws are here on this subject my case was dropped. Literally they choose when to enforce the "faster than 25MPH and its a motorcycle" thing. Some days they drive by and wave, other days they see a nice "look fast" scoot going over 25 and nail em. That summer i bet 25 people got tickets and or hauled to jail for riding scooters. Some as slow as 30MPH.

I've been passed by a cop while doing about 60 on the shoulder in a 50. I never assume they all don't care though and I'm on the brakes quick if I see them first. When I was pulled over for 40 in a 25 it was a warning and that cop thought the scoot was cool and he didn't notice my bike speedo so he thought I didn't know I was going that fast for sure. Next cop might think I should get a couple thousand dollars worth of fines. I've been threatened with the fines and charges before on a midbike, something like our member lauriejennifer rides. It's scary just having them list everything they could do if they wanted to, let alone actually facing the full penalties. I really don't think most cops would ever give me the huge fines and points and all that, but it kinda sucks knowing one day you might get the wrong cop in the wrong mood and he'd have every right to burn your ass. The smart thing would be to just slow down and ride the scooter speed limit or posted speed limit where appropriate. I for one have never been that bright unfortunately.

Indiana rules the loop holes are so big and even when you try to register the bike you can't. I tried to plate and register my Zuma about 2 weeks ago. I have a MC permit that allows me to ride during the day and all this other stuff. So I took my paper work to the DMV trying to register my bike but since it was a 50cc they couldn't.
4 hours later I'm pulled over for doing 48 in a 50. Yes pulled over for going under. Cops spills the "laws" on scooter/mopeds. I happily told him I just tried to register the bike and showed him my MC permit. He let me go on my way after saying how nice my scoot was haha. Around here most the time cops will usually wave and go on by. I get a lot of questions from them at gas stations all the time. Which is cool because they no longer act like a guy with a badge. More like a guy wanting to buy one and rip into it in his garage.

Pretty good idea. I have to make a trip to Floyd County Police Dept. tomorrow anyways. They recovered my old scoot that was stolen almost a year ago. I'll bring it up while I'm there. I just found it to be very dumb on the DMV's part to not allow me to register it? I'll see what happens though. I'm tired of having to look over my back thinking I'm doing something wrong when I've tried to make the right choice and make myself legal haha.

Cops come in every flavor. Always remember that. Some are cops because they wanna help their town. Some are cops because they always got their ass kicked in school. Those are the one's that are mad at the world and wanna feel big for once. Just remember for every bad cop there is a good lawyer. Those rookies don't always work out and end up flipping burgers. :thumb:

Even ride through Frankfort IN and you will get stopped if you dont have plates.BS huh?

Even ride through Frankfort IN and you will get stopped if you dont have plates.BS huh? They can stop you every 30 feet if they want, they can't do jack if you live outside of the county and your ID says so. I live in TN and my car doesn't have to adhere to California law as long as I live in TN and my ID says so, whether I am passing through or not. So Frankfort can suck it if I ever drive through. I do understand them stopping you though to check if you live there or not.... they don't know who you are. Long as they don't give you and ChiT and let you go........
