For the first time ever, the $200 scoot has given me a hiccup. I put the Dr Pulley sliders in today, put about 30 miles on these new 5g sliders and love them, I highly doubt it has anything to do with what happened, but can't be too sure. I was making a nice round after a good warm up, got about 1/4 mile away from home and all of a sudden, with no strange noises, lost power. It's almost as if she was starving for either air or fuel. It never died on me, so it leaves me to believe it didn't soft seize, but either way once I came to a stop and idled for a few seconds, it picked up again but with hesitation. Any ideas? I'm pulling the plug tomorrow and replacing it with a fresh one once again, other than the sliders it's a stock 50cc scoot.

High on my "hit list" is the vacuum petcock. If you have clear fuel lines, when it hesitates, or drops off, you just give the fuel line a look.

I completely understand that theory, but when I bought it, one of the first things I did was go to manual petcock and a quality filter. I'll check the fuel lines again tomorrow but I can't see how 400 miles has already caused an issue? Sorry I forgot to mention I changed from vacuum to manual....you can shoot me now lol

When you pull that plug out, have a good look at it to see if you believe it's lean. If it's kinda light colored after 400 miles then you might wanna try a little larger main. I'd pull the carb and clean it out well with carb cleaner and compressed air and check float height and operation. Make sure you don't see any cracks in the intake.

I think you need to do a leakdown test..?.. What kind of quality air filter? Any more airflow than stock and it will need a bigger main jet.. Could be lean like Brent suggested?
When i had an airleak my scoot would run ok around town. Stop and go traffic. As soon as i went country side and kept it WOT for a few miles it got hot and soft seized from too much air leaning the mix via bad crank seal. Leading to case failure.

2strokd were can you get a good cheap tester for a scooter that sound just like my cpi and it just died because of this could never figure why it ran so good in town for about 45 min and anytime after that or a long trip it would soft seize on me.

Think it could be a reed problem? Happening all of the sudden and all?

dunno, it holds steady and doesn't leak down, it was just a random thing, I'm going out for another ride tonight to see if it does it again. On another note, the plug showed good sign, not lean at all

Well, the verdict is in. it's sick. Only got 3/4 throttle before it bogged, no load it'll go all out but riding it just isn't happy. Seems like I'll be pulling the carb and checking over everything again just to make sure. Strange thing is a slight surge on and off when I tried the one time WOT. Good spark, plenty of fuel making it to the carb, just not sure what's going on

Maybe the main jet is blocked some? Clean the carb maybe? Check the reeds like step mentioned. Also, you are running with the airbox on right? No aftermarket filter with stock jetting.... That,l do it!
The fact that you have been riding w/o any trouble in the past leads me to believe it is carb or reed related

I'm leaning towards reed myself, of course I won't rule out the carb either. Too much on the "honey do" list today to even think about getting to it right now, but I'll be putting in the wrench time today one way or another. Stock airbox here, checked the new plug last night and it looked great. I'll keep you posted
