Hmmmm'. "camera techniques and shadowing" ; you've obviously gone over to the darkside . I bet you were on Santas' "bad" list and didn't get any Xmas presents either . Is that what the pile of coal was about? I thought Santa was just confused and didn't know how kerosene heaters work.

I used the stiffest spring from Lectron in the carb and the throttle returns now. It does take a noticeable effort to use the throttle. I'll have to see how it is when riding.
I got the scoot fired up today and bled the air out of the cooling system. I'd like to take it out for a warm up run before re-torque, but there's salt on the road, accumulating in the shoulders. The forecast shows warming and rain in the near future so I'll probably start catching up with editing and hope that the rain clears the salt. I'd rather stay away from it as much as I can, especially because the exhaust is already getting light surface rust here and there with regular wipedowns and no road salt and I have no desire to wash a scooter when it's 40 degrees... I hardly ever wash them when it's 80 degrees.

Now you have me thinking about when you “rode” the car wash for the 48hr/Ruckus.

I've tried more tuning, continuing to lean out the metering rod. I finally got it to not sputter on takeoff or acceleration from a roll. The catch is, it went from sputtering to either going or lean bogging. It's also leaned out to the point that the idle is sporadic. It wants to hang, but if I adjust it so it's lower then when it does calm down it dies.
I was using 1/4 turns. Went back 1/8 turn from last sputtering to bog or go. Now it always bogs from a stop. I think it may be temp/humidity reaction. That's the only thing that makes much sense to me. It was 43 yesterday on the last ride with pretty high humidity. The kick start broke before the last ride that I was going to try with the 1/8 turn. I fixed that today, but it's 38 with lower humidity. Otherwise, I'd think it should have improved and bogged less.
I don't think any carb should be this picky, where it goes right from sputter to bog. It looks like the line to the power jet is now holding a higher fuel level. The float level may be higher. Next plan is to take a good look and see if the fuel level has indeed raised. If so, it may be loading up from that and then I've had to over-compensate with lean metering rod settings.
This hasn't exactly matched my initial hope of, just bolt on a Lectron, make a couple of fine adjustments and you're good to go! lol

Bummer! Its a great idea, but doesnt seem to work well with this build..You have certainly given it a whole lot more effort than most..I'm sure all the 'arm chair advisors' are telling you what youve done wrong, perhaps they may want to buy that gem and you can reinstall a working carb and get on with the project!!

To be fair, I have spent a lot of time fiddling around that I shouldn't have.
I really shouldn't have messed with the power jet before the metering rod was right. Inexperience on my part, thinking the power jet did more than it seems to.
I noticed the fuel level looking like it is rising. I could have immediately stopped and settled that. I wanted to see if it would get in tune or not. At a glance it didn't look like it was far off in the bowl, just the power jet. I may have screwed up there and should have got a good look. We'll see if that is it or not.
Again, I think if you buy Lectron's kit for a 2001 YZ 125 and bolt it onto a stock bike, you will have a much different experience. So far there's nothing terribly complicated about the tuning. I'm thinking if you maintain a float height, stick with metering rod adjustments till it goes well without sputtering or bogging, and then deal with the power jet; it's prob not such a process.

The float height didn't look much higher than when installed. I was seeing the fuel level in the power jet hose that keeps getting higher. I think that's more a function of pressure/vacuum that keeps the fuel there. Still, float height has always been a little higher than the lines in the bowl, so I took the carb off and set it lower.
I'm also going to replace the spark plug and cap. The cap fits OK, but not perfect. Don't want any excuses for why it may sputter if it does.
I was planning to finish and test ride today, but other stuff came up. Based on the small change in float height, I'm not very optimistic and expect that I'll end up contacting Lectron to see what they say and if I can plan on buying a metering rod to make this carb even more expensive. Don't know till you try though.

There has to be a way to make it work. Not for lack of trying though.

The whole Lectron thing really has me down. It’s not even my problem....
