I put the Lectron back on and put the 2-3 metering rod in that Brooks of Lectron sent to me. I set it at 2.054" with the sheet saying 2.055". Pilot jet is at 1.5 turns out, which is likely on the lean side for a 2 rod. It's better than anything I've seen lately out of the Lectron. Still not right. I haven't checked times, but it took off with no stumble then with a little stumble. Same for part throttle. It will go well then a little stumble occasionally. Not too bad there.
The problem is that it's still hot part throttle. When I rode with the Dell, I paid attention to CHTs more than I have for a long time with it. It seems like about 150-170 is nice and safe. 170-180 could be acceptable. Beyond there, I don't trust it. With the 2-3 as set, I'm at 180 at 1/8-1/4 throttle. I tried around 1/2 throttle briefly but it got to 201 pretty quickly and I gave up on that.
I'm going to email Lectron again rather than fiddle with it. Seeing that it does stumble at times on launch, I don't see how it's going to let me richen it enough for part throttle without stumbling all of the time on launch. I'll try if he asks, but I don't really want to waste the time. I feel like if I had a pile of rods here, it wouldn't take all that long to get it going with my sort of go or no-go reasoning as described, but I'm not willing to buy a whole pile and I don't think they'll be sending a pile so it will be dragged out with ~a week between tests till I can get the right one or it's determined that there is no right one.
I really like the folks at ScooterTuning and appreciate the help that they give me, but I have to wonder why the 30mm HV Lectron has this description there :
"The 30mm Lectron is our go-to carb for all 85-112cc Engines. The adjustment tool is highly recommended in case you have to do any tuning. Using pliers to make adjustments can scratch the metering rod and alter the fuel delivery characteristics. Lectrons provide superior throttle response and power delivery by utilizing their patented metering rod. The simple design does not incorporate multiple jets to replace. The taper bore squeezes the air to increase speed and create fuel lift behind the flat metering rod. Lectrons are a great choice for riders seeking performance, fuel economy, simplicity and smoother power delivery."
A while back, I asked if they had any advice, since it sounds like they use them all of the time and was told that they carry them because some racers asked them to but they haven't used them. Maybe that description is from Lectron or something, because they've been honest with me anytime I've been in contact with them, they've been super easy to deal wit and didn't bat an eye when I told them I had to be able to be totally honest about our deal and any parts etc..., and I don't think they'd just make that up. Either way, if you take that plus the advertising that comes from Lectron, it's not too difficult to understand why I didn't think it would be this involved.

I decided to richen the 2-3 rod up to 2.043" just in case I was wrong and I could get better part throttle without changing launch much. It stumbled on one pass and didn't stumble on another. The problem is, when it does stumble bad it can eat up about a half second trying to sort itself out before it goes. I then went in and checked times and it's farther off than I thought.
2 Run Avgs : 0-30, 0-40, 0-50 2.054" : 3.6, 5.4, 8.0 2.043" : 3.8, 5.5, 8.1
It seemed too rich from idle to roughly 1/4 throttle based on feel/sound. Around 1/8 it was at 165 CHT, which was great when I was observing the Dell. It was missing like it was too rich though at one specific spot. It still heated up at higher part throttle openings. I think it needs a series up on the rod, so instead of a 2-3 a 3-3 for example. That should leave the bottom up to around 1/4 similar and add more fuel at higher throttle openings. With a similar setting around 2.050"-2.060" I would guess that would be close to something rideable... unless it needs even more like a 4-3. I could be way off though, because sometimes they recommend richer settings with rods that are leaner in one section so it gets confusing to me there. Also, rideable and optimal for acceleration and response aren't the same. The Dell has gone quicker with excellent snap, while being rideable, so it feels so close but so far still to me and maybe the 30mm is just too much. I hope I'm wrong and the next rod is the miracle rod. I can't help but wonder how different the experience with a 30mm would be if I had jets and needles so when one area was right, I could leave it and work on another instead of needed that 1 perfect piece that solves the entire puzzle.

Such a tricky thing to sort out. It would have been useful to have local friends who ran these carbs and could share parts and offer suggestions.
I still say we should have had a betting pool where everybody bought a block (needle) for $20 (thereby paying for all the needles but shipping) and the winner would get a t-shirt.
I think I had selected a 4-1 needle as my block.

I emailed Lectron Monday morning and haven't heard anything back (Fri afternoon). I'd like to get back at it in the near future, so I just ordered a 3-3 to see if that's better or worse.
Still nothing from the powder coater. Monday will be exactly 11 weeks/77 days. I'm going to contact Guinness soon about world records.

Not sure what happened with my last order from Lectron. I figured I should be getting a ship notification, but never did. Checked and that order was not listed on my account. Never billed PayPal, though I remember doing the checkout there. I just ordered the 3-3 again. Maybe it didn't register the final place order button or something last time, because I just realized I don't have any order confirmation from that last order.
Haven't heard any reply from Brooks of Lectron 9 days later, but I definitely have the sent email so I know I didn't screw that part up.

30 minutes after my order, Brooks replied to my last email and said he's added a 4-3 and and dual power jet kit to my order at no charge. At least I assume my guess of a 3-3 or 4-3 being the next logical step must have been in the ballpark, so that's a plus. I don't see the dual jet kit on their site, and still being green to the world of power jets, I guess the idea would be to install another jet positioned to start working at lower throttle to try to bandaid the lean midrange.
I'm really hoping one of the rods will do it.

At least they are trying to help. That's a good sign.

I couldn't resist seeing what a $25 "Moto Tassinari" KX85 VFORCE3 reed block is like. It's gonna take a while with a delivery estimate in August, though it may still beat my wheels. I figured even if the reeds are junk, as long as the block itself is not brittle or something, it could be worth it. If it is junk, oh well. With coupon it was $22.00 shipped. I ordered a 3M respirator when I couldn't find one anywhere else and it seems like the real deal right down to the packaging. Admittedly, I bought it for painting and I'm not really trusting of the filters. Those may be replaced just to be 100% sure before I paint with it. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002452482552.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.1ab14c4dOghSmO

Swapping the reeds with carbon fiber make them a very good budget option

The Aerox rear disc that has been on backorder from ScooterTuning.Ca finally shipped. That and the ignition are some of the last parts that I've been waiting on for the RC-One. I just cancelled the RC-One MVT that they can't get anymore and ordered the Piaggio version. Maybe I'll be able to make that work. I also ordered a S6 clutch. The one for the Minarelli that I have should work, but they were back in stock and they disappear fast so I grabbed one. If nothing else, I wouldn't mind having a spare while they're available, because I really like this clutch.
Of course I still have no Aerox wheels that were intended to go with this. I haven't ordered the rear fender for the RC-One, and I'm thinking I probably should after seeing it. Primarily as protection for the carb/filter that is right over the rear tire. That's on backorder, so I didn't bother.
I'm not planning on working on the RC-One till I finish whatever I wanna do with the TPR, so it's not actually a rush. The whole thing is so far pushed back because of the Lectron that I thought I'd be done with in Nov or Dec last year and the C piston that I waited on for 3 months. Aside from seeing if that's ever right, I am still curious if I can ever get belts to last longer. I'm thinking that it is likely 1 of 2 things, if it can be remedied.
1) I need to machine the case where the starter boss would slide over so I can move the variator inward another 0.5-1mm. 2) My modified rear pulley may not "mesh" with the variator as it should. The problem with this, is that the rear pulley is very expensive. Not sure that I want to drop ~$300 on a new aluminum pulley, just in hope that it may work. That may be the deal breaker that causes me not to explore wear more. It would be worth every penny if I didn't break belts constantly, but it may do nothing for me.

The rear fender is not worth it, i bought one for aerox and all of the dirt still fly directly onto the filter I'll prob wait on it. I also know that Ryan said his filter was soaked from riding in the rain. From where it is, shielded fairly well, I'm guessing that means it wasn't protected from the tire spray too well. Probably needs something more full length to really work.
