I think I'm sort of over the wheels now and ready to move on with life. lol Yesterday I was nervous about the customer that I did a BBK for that sounded like he thought it should go 60 and another thing that I'm about to get into and then all of the BS with the wheels finally came to a head and I was even more irritated than usual. I still think the whole situation with the coater was BS and I'll probably always wonder why he treated me that way, even to the point of seeing other customers wheels sitting around all cleaned up waiting for them and you saw what I got and I had to clean the dust and crap off of them. I still don't like the color, but I'm not going to do anything about it because of cost. It's bright. Just not what I wanted. The only thing left for me to do regarding this situation is write a review and hope at least someone else takes it into consideration, but I'm not doing it right away so I don't end up with 14 pages of aggravation driven rattling on. If you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly short-winded and afraid of detail once I start typing.

I can understand just wanting to be done and moving on. Sometimes things just aren't with the frustration anymore. I have put down more projects then I care to admit for the same reasons.

I just did a google review. If I see anywhere that doesn't require me to reactivate facebook, I'll post there as well. Hopefully not so long that no one reads it, but there was so much wrong and I wanted to be clear. Posted 2 pics of the wheels along with it. EDIT : Posted on BBB as well.
I had a pair of 13" scooter wheels powder coated. I wouldn't have believed that this much could have gone wrong.
- Total time from dropping off a pair of wheels to picking up a pair of coated wheels was 94 days. The owner estimated a turnaround time of 2 weeks when I dropped them off. - They melted my wheels. Someone there couldn't tell aluminum from steel and melted them in a burn off oven. - I had to get another pair of wheels. I sent the invoice to them and we agreed that I wouldn't make them pay me right away. Instead I was told that they would cut me a check for the difference in the price of my wheels and the coating when they were ready. - The first 14 days was the time for them to melt my wheels and then for me to deliver a 2nd pair to them. The last 80 days is how long it took for them to blast and coat the 2nd pair of wheels and notify me that they were complete. - At one point, roughly 2 months into the ordeal, I called to see if there was any update on the wheels. The owner told me that they would have them done on the first of the week. I didn't hear anything, so a week past the date that he said they'd be done, I drove there to pick them up. They weren't done. They had just finally blasted them the day that I went there. - They forgot the color that I chose. I had a set of wheels done there 2 years prior, and returned specifically because I wanted the exact color that I previously chose. I had the color written down from 2 years ago and I chose the exact same color for these. I specified the color both when I dropped off the first pair of wheels and when they forgot what I wanted. I still ended up with a different color. I can put the 2 pairs of wheels side by side and it's obvious. - When I picked up the wheels, instead of a check for the difference, they adjusted the price to match the price of my wheels. Considerably higher than the price I paid 2 years prior for the same job. - The wheels are unfinished. There are rough edges that I'll have to smooth all over the place. Center sections that will be visible were left uncoated. This may be a "fool me twice, shame on me" scenario. When they coated wheels 2 years ago, they coated over the brake drum friction material. I would have gladly specified exactly what I wanted coated, but any time I dropped off wheels, they never seemed interested in any detail that I mentioned.
Professionalism has improved vs 2 years ago. 2 years ago, when I picked up the wheels the same day that the owner let me know they were done, the owner was not around and wouldn't answer his employee's calls. The employee didn't know how to take anything other than cash. When I didn't have cash, I was told that I had to drive about 10 miles to an ATM or come back when the owner was around. I live almost an hour away, so coming back later wasn't a good option. At least they have improved there.
I will say that the wheels they coated 2 years ago have proven to have a durable coating. They're still as bright as when they were first coated without any scratching or discoloration.
Long story made short, it took 94 days to deliver a pair of wheels that were the wrong color. I never even mentioned the color to them, because I've never got the impression that they would care enough to offer to do anything about it and maybe next time they'd keep my wheels for 180 days. Not worth the risk. The first time going there, 2 years ago, left a lot to be desired, but they did well enough that I gave them a second chance.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I looked up the powder since they included a code. I found that I could get it for $13.50 for 1lb plus shipping. So 5lb would be $67.50 (plus shipping) and they billed me $137.50 and got an attitude about how they didn't even upcharge me. More or less, they doubled the price... and I'm not a person that owns the largest oven on the east coast and constantly buys powder.
The other thing that I realized, is that the maker of that coating is not the same that made what I chose. They just guessed at some bright yellow color. In their catalog, they had fluorescent neon yellow and neon fluorescent yellow and I chose the first. I thought they prob mixed up and got the 2nd. Nope. I'd bet they had no idea at all what I picked out when they ordered the coating.
I know. I said I'd let it go. I just couldn't help myself. I had to know if these bright coatings really were super expensive, since the powder costs about what Ryan pays for a whole coating job. At least this way I know I'm not being unreasonable in thinking that I was overcharged and that they didn't worry about what the customer wants.

not to make it even worse, but 5lbs of powder would be enough to coat your wheels 5 times over

They charged me for 5lb the first time too. They do some bright race car/kart stuff based on their site and facebook. One of his buddies will probably get a cheap job with a 2 day turnaround thanks to the dumb scooter guy.

I just saw a stove on the side of the road in my trailer park. I am going to go get it and start powder coating on the side. Full bump pricing, half ass work will pass. Lol!

Added bonus; you can start casting your own parts before long. Here, I'll write your first commercial for you... OG Powder CoatingWe bake it, we bought it; part of our bring 1, better bring a spare special. Stop in and get a free estimate today. We won't honor it, but it sure sounds nice. Nobody else treats you like we do! If they did, you'd be in prison for murder by now!

Even when I do powder coating most of the cost is in labor, powder coat is relatively cheap just needs patience for the actual removal of paint if you're not using an acid bath , which makes this frustrating that they half assed it and took so long:= Just don't know how they messed up the color (I find them good looking imo, would be sick for malossi livery)

I bet they'd love it if somebody stood outside on public property with a sign "praising" their company . better yet a whole group of SCOOTERS riding up and down the street ;some with short but legible BANNERS; and then others handing out FLYERS outlining and "praising " their uh ... business model

It just makes you think they don't give a toss for your custom. The price they charged you just proves it. If the job is too small for them to be bothered. They should just be honest with you. But now you have the powder code, oldgeek could coat your original wheels the same colour, as the new ones. Then you could pretend it was all a bad dream.

I’ve been biting my tongue about this. It’s been driving me crazy. I’m ready to drive down to this place and show them how we handle this kind of thing in Detroit. Ryan can testify, I’m not 100% okay.
Brent is one of the most objective and fair individuals I’ve come across in life. The quality of person you are the the treatment you are receiving from this place are on such opposite ends of the “how to be a human” spectrum, the sense of injustice makes my blood f*ckin boil. I’m shaking as we speak.
The very least (and probably most mature/responsible) you could do is write a review like that. It’s very clear, concise, and honest. What you’ve been the entire time with them. They’ve taken their display is complete incompetence at their chosen profession out on you. You’ve been an exemplary human.
I calibrate and maintain medical devices for a living and if I were to be as a negligent as they were, someone could be injured. Thankfully idiots like this can only damage people’s wheels and such. But whether you’re damaging wheels or causing heart attacks, I cannot endorse willful ignorance and will sometimes actively try and mitigate it or it’s effects when they seem too glaring.
I really want to walk down there and help them adjust their behavior too. You don’t treat others like that unwarranted.
I paid $120 to have these done in 5 days btw. That’s how I know they suck.

Kenho21 : Thanks for the kind words and giving a damn, but there's no reason to get too upset. TBH, I wish I could be more like the powder coater and just not care. I always figured it must be nice not to worry and stress over things. I'm so far the opposite. I dropped a big bore kitted scoot off to a guy Friday. Since then I've been worried about if it's running well. Gotta go where he works tomorrow and I'm stressed hoping he's still happy with it. Caring sucks... which sounds like something Beavis and Butthead would say. lol And, hey... good news for Lectron. We almost forgot about that thing for a while.
