Having a difficult time getting it to turn over. Anybody have a link for a high cca battery? I night also add another base gasket. Didn't think this would happen on a 47mm bore.

I have been happy with the Motobatt from ebay on my Triton. They offer more CCA in the same size/class of battery. Might wanna check that out. Otherwise, you'll prob have to do something custom to fit a larger battery to get much more. Make sure your cables are good and secure. I seem to get a little boost from larger and better quality starter cables.
Any idea what compression is? Seems like it should be able to turn over with a decent battery and reasonable compression.

No,i have a compression gauge but i don't have the smaller adapter for the 4t. I'm guessing its high though. I'll have to check it out when i can. I fully charged the battery and its still very tough to turn over. Triple checked timing and it should be fine. Crank was at "t" and cam gear was on spot.

The battery that is in the scooter is 12v 7a should I be getting the same thing in the motobatt? What is the cca of the motobatt?

Usually you can measure the battery's voltage with a multimeter. If it's below 12V it's bad. Usually it's 13V or above, then it's good.
It may be your starter too!

Ordered the motobatt and an extra gasket set. I REALLYhope don't have to tear it down again, lol. I'm going to check compression as well before i do anything.

Btw, just for reference,i adjusted both intake and exhaust to .004 because the feeler gauge set went from .0025 then to .004.

Also. Can i not add a head gasket to lower compression as i would in a 2t? This way i avoid changing the cylinder location. It also would be slightly advantageous to be sure piston to valve clearance is good.

I should be fine to add a head gasket to lower compression. I can't think of a reason not besides maybe a chain issue but that's the same issue when adding a base gasket. I tried to avoid this by ordering the correct head but scrappy did not have it in. I'm just going to install the new battery and copper spray two head gaskets and it should be fine. Unless someone here can say otherwise.

how about a retarding timing at cranking , and advancing with an increase in rpm . That gets taken care of internal in the cdi .
would you be interested in tring it out ? If your spark is advanced during cranking it will give you kick back , same sympton as weak starter .

I have a cdi it is not adjustable , the way it works at start up under say 1k rpm its retarded , holding spark till later (just passed tdc) . As the rpm increase so does the timing , acting like a vacuume advance set up . It's the retard at start up will solve your problem with hard cranking . I won't disagree that the battery could be part of the problem .

This is a personal cdi, or do you sell these?

I sell them , I have not had any 2t feedback I know they work well in the 4t . If your battery is weak the engine is not going to crank . I would rather see you with a known good battery . If the cranking is labored , then I would say it would be worth a try on 2t . If I had a 2t I would test it . I know it works on the 4t .
