I marked the throttle and let the scoot warm up. From 1/4 to 1/2 throttle is the dead spot. Idle to 1/8 is pretty good and 1/2 to WOT will run strong (not sure it's just right) if I can get it past the 1/4 to 1/2 throttle positions without it dying. It's gonna end up being the needle, needle postion, or throttle valve. Hopefully I can get it going with a change in needle position, but I'm not real confident there. It's not like there's just a bog or something, it will die out if you try and hold position there and you can't even get to WOT all the time because it's so bad. I'll try the needle position whenever I get to go outside for a few more minutes. Sorry for so few updates and so little progress, I've needed to be inside with granny way more at times in the last few weeks. Kinda hard and annoying to work on something when you get 15min or so then have to come in for a bit, then 15min a little later. By the time you get going it's time to go back in. I looked at the price of needles and throttle valves. Damn. DellortoDirect wants $20 per throttle valve and $7 per needle. If you bought the carb in parts I think it would cost you $500. lol

Is that what most people would call the needle jet (needle works in and out of it)? Also if changing needles doesn't get you there you might try hooking up a vacuum gage and monitoring it at the trouble spot. I might try this with my high speed stutter if I live to tell about it. ;D EDIT: I suspect exhaust pipe action might be responsible at the affected rpm, at least in my case.

The throttle valve is the slide. This thing... The needle is pretty fat and blunt so I'm guessing it's on the leaner side of PHBG needles. The throttle valve is a 40. Dell seems to offer 30-60. I believe 30 is the richest and 60 is the leanest, so I'm close to the richest. The needle is a W7. I know I can get either a W1, W10, or W12, and the range according to DellOrto Direct is from 1 to 26. Just gotta figure out which way their numbers work. I'd assume low numbers are gonna be lean by that range and looking at my 7, but I really don't know. Soi the setup at this point is : Main Jet : 92 Pilot Jet : 35 (stock : 50) Needle : W7 Needle Position : Next to leanest Throttle Valve : 40 Starter Jet : 60 Mixture : 1 1/8 turns out That gets crisp response from 0-1/8, dead from 1/4 to 1/2, good power from 1/2 to WOT. I swapped to the richest needle setting. Haven't got to try it yet.

Ok, thanks. I run the w1 with my 21 PHBG.

Moving the needle up helped, but it's still lean. It doesn't die out or anyhting, but it bogs bag trying to get to WOT with any quickness and definitely favors the enricher on above 1/8 throttle or so. It's good enough that I could tune for the main jet to be sure it doesn't just need more fuel that way, but I still think I'll end up needing a needle at least.

I went thru the same lean sag drill with the VM22,a thinner needle made a world of difference. Before the needle swap it was untuneable!!

I tried a larger main jet, but it didn't really make any difference in the bog. Hopefully the parts don't take long. I haven't rode since the SunL died so I'm ready to go. lol

Ther throttle valve and a couple of needles as well as some bigger mains came in from treatland already! I decided to go with the throttle valve (slide) swap first. The throttle range that I was having the worst problems seemed like that would be a good choice. I had to file this one down to clear at WOT just like the stocker. Kinda disappointing quality for DellOrto, but it could be worse. For once, I was right on the first try. lol Bad bog is gone. There is a very slight bog if I snap the throttle from idle to WOT as fast as I can, but not bad at all. I'm gonna tune the main jet before I go any farther, but that'll have to wait. By the time I got to get the slide installed it was dark and the grass was getting wet. As I mentioned before, that's just asking to crash this thing. lol Almost lost it once just in my short testing laps around the yard.
