I tried the stock vari and 7.5g rollers. That ain't gonna work. The heaviest rollers I have are 8g for 15x12 and I saw 10,200 RPM with the 7.5g. It will rev there, just doesn't make power. Peak definiteyl seems to be mid to upper 8,000 RPM range right now. Went to an out of the box vari wit multiple spacers, some large enough that the pulley cant close to keep it from separatingfrom teh ramp plate. Once the belt is free at idle, it does much better. 8g sliders (was using 8.75 previously) and that setup yielded a max RPM at about 9,500 @ 55MPH and some nasty acceleration up till 45 or so. Then it's revving past it's peak power. I played with a few jets today too. Go tthe best results, power wise, with a 90 main. That's the lowest I tried. Highest I tried was a 100 and it was way rich and boggy. Acceleration RPM with the 90 main was almost 1000RPM higher than the 100. The plug readings made me iffy about lower than a 90. -100 the plug is washed out and wet. Not much color. -95 the plug is half washed looking. Half white with no residue on the ring, half a light caramel color with a little residue on the ring. -92 shows a fairly solid color, but it's lighter than I'd think is appropriate. Not much color on the ring. -90 the plug is light, ring is clean. On power, the 90 wins it. On plug reads, I'd say the 92 or 95. 95 is what I've been using long term though, and it gives chocolate colored plugs over a little time. I looked at the piston crown through the plug hole with a 95 (forgot it on the others ) and it looks clean I think. My LED flashlight has a green tint so its' hard to judge color soemtimes. It's either clean or a solid coating, no pattern. As soon as I get a chance I'm swapping up to 8.25g sliders to drop the revs just a little for now. Then I think I'm gonna retry 90-95 mains at least. Today was almost 70 anyway. The rest of the week will be 50, much more normal for this time of year here. The way it runs so hard taking off like this I'm thinking of either trying to lower revs in the cruise range or opening up the exhaust port more to really get it pulling when it revs. I think it would be pretty rough with more power up top... but then I like that it is pretty torquey and the lower revs are better for everything. This pipe may not like high revs either. Never seen any specs on it.

I'm imnpressed with it. I had a fun run yesterday on one tuning pass from a stop. I hit the gas and the front came up so I leaned over a little and let off. Got on it again, still leaned over a bit, and the front picked up 1-2 inches and carried it for maybe 30ft. The short frame and stock gears is just fun. I used to not really wheelie on ashphalt other than 1" or so launching. Now it's obvious that if I didn't let off at times it would put me on my ace. I'm still not riding any of them though. When it gets higher than a couple of inches I let off. It's just so different than the midbikes that I wheelied constantly. I just don't feel like Im in control as much. I dunno if it's the CVT instead of gears or just that the little bikes were so easy to control. Once I get it right I think I need some time in a deserted parking lot.
I need a scoot mounted cam that doesn't vibrate too so you could see what it's doing. With the helmet cam you really can't tell. In the last vid I posted the only way you really know it's getting up is by watching the shadow.

Ooh i can tell ;D!!! It feels funny because your feet are in front of you not beside you :spin: . Took me a while to get comfy riding on the back wheel

It feels funny because your feet are in front of you not beside you . You know, I never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense now that you mention it. I always say I feel like I'm gonna slide right off of the scooter. With my feet beside or even behind me on the little bikes I could kinda brace myself. Now it just feels like the scoot would leave without me. lol Good call. :thumb:

No problem. Before i got in trouble i was practicing turning while wheelying. Its pretty neat with these. You can just push down on the floor with your foot on the side you want to turn and your weight will turn you. Same theory with holding the wheelie...If it goes too far to one direction use you legs to keep it in line. If you look real close at the wheelie pic from the track my right leg is off the scooter because it was veering to the left. It was hard to wheelie that day! I had 50psi of air in the tires and my low seat on making it a whole new ride. I never really wheelied with it like that until then. Hell with your scooter ide be in wheely heavin my friend. It is safer to power wheelie than to pull up IMO! Easier on the back! For sure!

50psi... That's not much contact patch. No wonder you had to steer it that day. I'm just trying to stay on and you are trying to drive the damn thing on one wheel around corners and stuff. lol I think power wheelies are cooler just because I like power. lol The riders that can wheelie stock scoots and underpowered stuff are more impressive as far as skill is concerned by a long shot though. Some folks make it look incredibly easy on anything. I don't know that I've ever really done a wheelie that wasn't power on any form of two-wheeler. At least not a good one. lol

lol, I just love wheelies. Always have. I wheelie anything i can get away with. Power wheelies are the best tho. Makes ya feel real good when you get a scooter to do em! I remember when i got Skeedr to do one for the first time...Good memory!

I swapped in a mix of 8 and 8.5g sliders to get 8.25g today, then I did some more runs with a few main jets now that it's 20 degrees colder than yesterday. I tried the three plugs that I felt would be the best choices from what I saw yesterday, 90, 92, and 95. Once again, I got plug reads that were hard to judge. There was roughly a 20MPH wind today, so I recorded RPM to and from a point and they will vary quite a bit.
90 Main Acceleration against wind : 8200-8500RPM Acceleration with wind : 8,300-8900RPM
92 Main Acceleration against wind : 8300-8500RPM Acceleration with wind : 8300-9200
95 Main Acceleration against wind : 8200-8400RPM Acceleration with wind : 8200-9000
All of those look scary light, but what the photos don't show well is that the 92 and 95 especially show signs of being washed clean. You can see that dark deposits are on the ring just beside the ground electrode, and they are wet. I'm sur eit's washing and not just lean because they run well and if you look at the pics the 95 is the cleanest of them all. The 92 sounds like a winner today, but I think I'm going to stick with the 95. I think it's a better idea since nights are in the 30s to stick to the rich side right now. So that much is figured out. Seems like a lot of effort to stick with the same jet I was using, but I just have to know it's the right choice. lol Now I still need to get the rest of the throttle straight. Then I can get the CVT dialed in and experiment with the variator mod I mentioned in the 2T performance section.

The midrange is what kills a lot of pistons!!

Yeah. I've learned that the hard way. I just wanted to be sure the main was right before I spend anymore time on needles and throttle valves and such.
You had any time to play with your big engine yet John? I know we were talking about how we rev so low. Looks to me that lighter weights and some port work would have you pullin hard at 9,000+ if you so desired.

I was planning to work on the carb tune this morning, but it looks like rain off and on for the next 2 days. I figured now would be a good time to get the "extensions" JB welded on the variator. I can't really do any tuning, but I did change up a couple of things to test later. I went back to the 40 throttle valve (stock) and switched from the W7 (stock) needle to a W1. The throttle valve was an improvement over stock, but it needs this needle all the way rich and then it's got rich spots.

Wow! That W1 was rich. It sounded like my big v-twin riding mower glugging as I gave it throttle. Clouds of smoke and rich bog even at the leanest position. I ended up with a W4 to get it going well. For the rest of the details on how it's doing with the mods, check out this thread. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=2perform&thread=1118&page=1I'm pretty pleased with it ATM. I think a new belt needs to be in my near future, maybe some little tweaks and more fine tuning. Not bad though. ;D

I took the Venus out in a parking lot today. Just loaded it in the truck (trailer queen ) and hauled it out there. It was cold and I just wasn't up for riding. Just kinda wanted to mess around. Ended up playing around for a couple of hours, abusing it basically. lol I did get a little bit of video when I made a few "passes". I measured it out and the three light poles you can see in teh video are 370ft fromt the first to the third. I reset my guage for each pass and I got 38.9MPH at the slowest and 40.4MPH at the fastest. Not bad for a bit over half an eighth mile (330ft) with a fat dude riding I don't think. I did manage one OK still from my old cam just sitting on the hood of the truck. I really suck at wheelies still, but maybe I'll get better someday. Might have to mount some footpegs even with about the front of the seat or so. ;D
