Mega Squirt! Love the marketing..... So is this a 5 liter? Well, I don't know about a Mega Squirt system but engine control computers have sort of a map they follow dependent upon a whole mess of variables the O2 is sort of a check device to monitor how well the mapped out program is working. Bosch used to have some pretty cool graphics that kind of looked like a three dimensional map. Some computers will learn and make adjustments to that map dependent upon what the O2 is saying but usually that is a relatively small amount like maybe 15% at the most from what I recall on the systems I worked on. Other than that the system would probably put out a check engine light. Basically you should be able to eliminate the O2 and put .5V to the input and have a good running engine. It's really all in the programing. Using an O2 and a DVOM you need to be the computer and interpret those results. I am sure you find some info on interprting exhaust gases online. I used to work with four gas analyzers and that would be best but this should work fine too. If I were tuning bikes I would give it a shot!

If you want more info on the MegaSquirt... www.megamanual.com/index.htmlIt does have an autotune feature. You can even decide exactly how much (percentage) it is allowed to deviate from your initial figures. I''d love to show you a vid of mine working, but it was installed and started smoking shortly after key on. I had setup initial stuff and on the laptop and connected it and managed to see the monitors on the screen when I noticed the smoke. I contacted the seller and they said they couldn't see how I would have caused it and I sent it back. That was 4-5 months ago. Took me a few months to get it when ordered. Gotta love dealing with anything kinda custom. It took me over a year to finally get all the bits to my turbo setup. Add in major budget issues (long time saving up) and you can see how this all adds up to a very long time to accomplish anything. Scooters are so much more fun. ;D It's a 5.0... errr 5.4 now.

OK I can see where your paychecks are going! Is that intercooled? If so get that running right and you are going to have a real screamer there,,, if the engine stays together. Not sure what you mean by smoking. FYI those had a fuel pressure regulator that would leak into the vacum hose and could make the engine run very rich. If never replaced then replace it.

I've seen videos - it's sure a screamer. I can still beat you to 30 Brent

It's intercooled. Intercooler blocks most of my radiator. lol When I say smoking, I mean smoke was coming out of the new computer. My heart sunk for a moment when I was thinking this POS Mega Squirt is going to burn my car and the garage down. Nothing more than some foul smelling electrical smoke though.
The fuel pressure, and basically anything else stock under the hood, is long gone. I use a Aeromotive competition fuel system with a 1:1 bypass regulator now. Before that I had a BBK regulator in there.
Luke, 0-30 is an easy win. I can't be too hard on the gas pedal from a dig or I'll ruin tires. I still get tire spin at 50MPH if I stomp on it. I haven't had much time to try and straighten that out, since for a long time it would pop a gasket every time I did WOT. Got that figured out and the transmission gave up. Replaced that and then the computer problems. Any of my friends will tell you they've never seen someone with luck as bad as mine. The problem with the head gaskets appears to have been an intake issue. One runner flowed more than all the others and caused that one to run lean. You can't adjust individual cylinders, so... pop. It took a very long time to figure that out, and I baffled some of the top Mustang tuners from around the US with that one. On a last ditch effort, I replaced the old Holley Systemax with the Edelbrock RPM II in the pics and it seems to be just rich on all cylinders now... which I can straighten out if I get a computer that doesn't smoke.
At any rate, I've had the car for 10 years now, and I've learned a lot from working on it. I used to be into street racing and showing off, and I'll be honest... I might still do that to some degree if it ran... but in recent years I enjoy what I can learn through the experiences more than anything. Same with scoots. I will say though, if not for the (forgive the cliche) roar of V8s, I may have never cared about engines and really got into scoots or any of it. As much as it's been a money pit, and I'd rather have what I've spent on it than the car at this point, I can't complain too much given what I've learned.
Man we get off topic around here. lol The Venus is still running well BTW. I've got a new project for it coming soon. As always, I'll share that when I get all of my parts and such.

Getting back to the Venus. It looks very much like the Geelys I have which are also retro. Also my knees stick out past the sheild in the front cause I am big. The panels lights etc look very similar if not identical. My panels are all busted up there isn't a one of them that doesn't have something cracked or broken and I think they have been made brittle by being baked in the sun. I was thinking of roughening up the inside of the panels and laying fiberglass on the inside then going from there. Do you know of anyone that has done this and what the results were?

I laid fiberglass on the inside of a fairing for and old Chinese midbike I had. I used it mend the two halves together after breaking it and it held up well. I know a few folks that used it just to stiffen panels on those little bikes with good results.

Good then that will be my plan. BTW I had two friends that had Buick Grand Nationals. One was kept very nice and stock. The other was modded like with everything you could buy at the time. They raced four times. The stock one beat the modded one twice because the modded one broke twice. Those were pretty impressive cars for a mass produced performance vehichle. If you ever have the opportunity to drive one take it.

As a fellow FoxStang owner-builder i can tell you Brent has had some "times" with this car. It will be a beast again, and beastlier than ever!!!!!
Glad to hear the Venus is doing well!

I knew a guy with an 11 second Grand National. Amazing car. I loved just hearing that thing coming. No chance that I was going to drive it though. lol

Well, I got most of the stuff for a new adventure with the Venus in today.... Yep. A stereo system. It's something I've always wanted to try out. I was browsing YouTube at some point and saw some bike setups and started looking up the Shark system. Price was right, so I bought it, a few accessories to make it work, and an MP3 player. (Yeah, it took me this long to get an MP3 player.) I figured I've got wheelies, 60MPH, and up to 70MPG out of this thing... so I might as well try out a stereo on it. Could make for a pretty sweet cruiser. Add a few leather tassles and I'll have a Harley. I've had reservations about audio systems on 2 wheelers, just because of distraction. I think speakers are the way to go vs earbuds because they wouldn't be blocking any external sounds that you need to be aware of. This is not something I plan to use constantly, but I think it would be amazing when I'm out late at night on long stretches with no one else around. I got the speakers mounted on some homemade brackets and I made a bracket to hold an MP3 player tonight. I still need to figure out what I'm going to do with the amp and remote and run all the wires. Yes, the right hand speaker is higher so it's uneven. I did that because I wanted additional room for movement around the throttle side. I picked up a battery for under $20 new on eBay, since the Venus hasn't used one since shortly after I got it. The battery isn't a big concern if it does end up getting run down since I haven't needed it for any other reason for this long, but I still wanted to see what kind of power this thing needs. I used my multimeter to test the current draw with the system off. That showed .002 amps (2mA). I assume that would be just enough to keep the clock on the amp going. I don't need the clock, so I may install a switch inline so there is no draw on the battery when not in use. I wanted to see the current it draws in operation, but I don't trust much load on a multimeter and I didn't know what I'd see. I used a 1 ohm resistor in line and measured the voltage drop across the resistor to get an idea of power consumption. Current = Voltage Drop / Resistance. Using a 1 ohm resistor sure does make the math easier. lol For reference, the volume goes from 0-30 on this unit. Radio reception is very poor. I couldn't find one channel that's clear. That was expected though, every review I read said that. Volume @ 15, White Noise : 0.17A Volume @ 15, Radio : 0.29A Volume @ 30, White Noise : 0.57A Volume @ 30, Radio : 1.36A I'm guessing that it would probably peak between 1.5-2.0A with a good signal from an MP3 player. Hopefully full volume is not necessary though. I'm not exactly sure what one of these charging systems can handle, but I suppose I'll find out. I'll provide all the details in the tech section whenever the project is complete. ;D

I toyed with the idea a few years back, but thought the wind noise would over ride any tunes at 30mph and above. This will be an interesting project!

I picked it up on eBay for $69.91 w/free shipping. You can also get it on the seller's site, though the site was more than eBay when I purchased. www.gooddeals18.com/ Most of the expense for me was in getting an MP3 player and accessories. It was about $130 for an 8GB player + GB Micro SD card + a couple of cases so I would be sure I had something that would secure the player well on the scoot + some charging stuff. Still, $200 (even though it's more than I wanted to spend) is not bad for a complete stereo... assuming it works out OK on the scoot. I read a lot of reviews before pulling the trigger and there are bikers saying they can hear it at 80MPH. I suspect they mostly use windshields since it seems like a cruiser thing and I noticed the popular mounting method seems to be on a windshield support bracket. A word of caution, there are a lot of reviews of the seller/site saying they received the kit with busted speakers from poor packaging. I decided to risk it, because I couldn't find it elsewhere and the price was good. Luckily, mine seems to be just fine. Some customers do say the company provided replacement speakers to them. I'll give you every detail once it's done. I have a lot of pics already and it's not done yet. I'll try to get some vids up as well. I'll definitely get a vid of it in operation, hopefully I'll get a ride along vid at some point. Not so sure how that will work out since my helmet mount sees to attract a lot of wind noise and the other mount is ahead of the speakers. I'll see what I can do though. I think other scooter folks might wanna hold off and see how this works out with the battery and charging system. You know I'll give you an honest review, and as I said before, I don't need a battery for any other reason so I'm a good guinea pig for something like this.

I got it all installed today... sorta.... The kit came with a 6ft 3.5mm cable to attach the MP3 player. I thought I'd need more, so I ordered a 10ft cable. Thing is, I ordered a mono cable instead of stereo. :/ It's all zip tied about every 6 inches. I'll have to pull all the panels back off and re-route everything. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to make the 6ft work. I doubt it though. Just sitting in the garage, it's pretty loud. Doesn't sound bad. At high volume levels, near max, it doesn't sound that great, but I don't think I'll need to turn it up that far. dB measurement, walk around, music samples...
