I feel that im hearing detonation, I know im not running to lean, so im replacing the plug in like an hour. What else can I do to stop this if replacing plug doesn't work? It just began and I only hear it at wot but not that much. I must stop this, and it just started so if it stops now then my engine should be just fine. But please help! I dont wanna hurt my scoot!!!
And sorry i posted this in the 2stroke section first on accident

very unlikely that its spark knock, far more likely that something is loose and rattling.

I have the same issue but at part throttle. I am going to try running race gas to see if it solves it.
Either that or take some timing off , which I do not want to do.

How can I tell if it is spark knock then? And I was planning on replacing the plug anyways to get a true read of how rich/lean I am. Its good but I do have an 88 main I swapped for an 85. But just looking out for my scoot!

.88 main on a 39mm bore? wow thats rich. your plug should be totally black. Ive never heard a little 4 stroke scoot spark knock, gotta be something else.

I have definitely heard a GY6 have detonation. A stock engine though, I wouldn't expect it. If you aren't already, use premium grade gas. If you haven't changed anything, just stock replacement parts, it really shouldn't spark knock with premium pump gas.

I have only used premium since day one, I occasionally put in a small splash of octane booster and my jets never clog. I still clean them but im running 35 pilot and 85 main right now. I used the 88 through the harshest part of winter and swapped back to the 85 like 3 weeks ago, but I have never had a black plug even with the 88. Its always light tan and some times has a white layer around the top 2 threads, im not sure what means but its looked great from what I can tell. And I just finished putting in the new iridium plug and coating all electrical connections and plugs with dielectric, along with removing the plug from the relay and used wire nuts instead and put heat shrink tubing on there too. Ran it for about 35-40 mins at WOT and the ping stopped and the cold starting was perfect, only held the starter for about 2 seconds and went straight to a perfect idle. I feel my old iridium took a beating from taking it out and putting it back in so many times and from me changing the gap quite a bit. My old one came gaped at around .031in and I didn't like that so I experimented. The new one was at a perfect .025in and thats about where I set the old one so I was happy with it. Just glad its acting perfect again.

Oh and I have a new gates belt and I sanded the outside of the teeth already too but haven't put it in yet because I keep hearing you lose some topend. Is this true? Still on the original belt at 12,000km and its holding up, doesn't look horrible but I cant make up my mind!!!! Lol

Hopefully you already knew this, but just in case... if you gap iridium plugs, you cannot do it as you would with a standard plug. Never use the wedge style plug gapper, because you can damage the iridium electrode. If the gap needs to be opened up, use a gapper that pulls the ground electrode so you aren't putting pressure on the fine iridium tip. If it needs to be closed, carefully tap the ground electrode on a hard surface. Lol Not sure about the Gates on the GY6, but generally a wider belt will help you gain top end. Sometimes you lose a little low end at first, because the wider new belt can't ride as low in the front pulley to get the best takeoff "gear". You should measure the width of your old belt to see where it stands relative to the service limit (16mm).

Thanks! That's good to know, im not messing with the plug I just put in. I will try the belt and see what happens, its probably a good idea to put it in before the old one leaves me stranded on the side of the road and has me calling for a ride. My scoot had always sat outside so the weather has made left its mark. All I need now is a new exhaust gasket, i can hear mine leaking now and then when i take off from a stoplight. But it stops after 1second. And would be a good idea to replace my clutch springs now? It engages really fast when I take off.

That is a very good video, teaches you a lot and what to look out for. I watched it about 2 weeks ago and sanded and cleaned out everything you said to do and it made a world of difference. But some parts of mine are past the point of touching up and will need to be replaced due to excessive wear. And weather exposure only speeds that up. Do you think I should change up anything in the cvt and replace things that aren't stock? Or will I have to do an entire makeover if I change up 1 or 2 things? And thanks for all the help by the way, its better to hear things from someone instead of guessing and getting into something that you didnt even have touch.

I've seen some performance variators around about as cheap as you can find a stock variator, or cheaper. If the variator is one of the worn out parts, that would be tempting to try. Here's an example... www.ebay.com/itm/160985250154?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649When you switch stuff up you may need to re-tune the CVT, but it shouldn't be anything a swap in roller weight can't sort out.
