This is mt first deadbeat customer:
So I fixed a scooter a couple of weeks back and the guy (Chuck) who looked affluent and drove a nice rig started writing me a check. I told him I deal in cash only. He tells me that I can cash it down the street. So I say okay and accept his check against my better judgment. (he looked okay to me) So after depositing the check the check bounced 4 days later. I called the guy he tells me "I'll have the cash in a couple of days. I'm sorry." I say "Okay" because the scooter is for his autistic kid. He says he's "High level autistic"
The guy, Chuck, is a DR. Veterinarian and he's working "part time" whatever that means..
Long story short it's now been 2 weeks and he's putting me off for another week and he's refusing to call me. It cost me $105 bucks to get that scoot working dammit!. I even installed an on-board battery tester and provided a new battery charger for the guy.
E-mails back and forth today:
Him:
Hi. I'm down along the coast interviewing for some jobs. I will have tangible dollars in my account next Thursday and could meet you at lunch in the Valley or on the way home with cash or have you cash the check on Friday or Sat if you are near a Bank of the West. Chuck
______________
Me:
Next Thursday???
I'm very disappointed to here that Chuck. I had you pegged as a stand-up guy but
it seems you're not at all what you project. You said a couple days at first
then you said a couple more, and now after 2 weeks it's another week... You
really need to get your affairs in order dude!
I was polite, thorough, prompt and courteous and this is what I get?
_______________
Dave,
It has nothing to do with you or me not being polite and honorable. It has to do with supporting an autistic spectrum individual, all of a sudden being employed 20% of what I was and having no money in the bank which I didn;t expect when you helped out. And I mean no money. I'll add on some interest, so don't feel that I'm trying to take advantage of you. These are difficult times and I very unsuspectingly got caught up in it. Chuck

The way I figure it it cost me $105 to fix your sons scooter.
$20 for the battery charger
$40 for the new battery
$10 for the battery tester
$20 for gas
$15 for the bounced check fee
If your girlfriend can lend you that much then I can wait for the rest which is
$210
You really need to call me. Stop avoiding a conversation! I'm not going to bite
your head off Chuck. I'll talk to you as I would my mother.
Dave

Not avoiding you just at the VA Hospital where I'm volunteering and not able to use a phone. These folks have more problems than you and me. I'll call you tomorrow.
________________
Well you see Chuck that's not my issue it's your issue. You hired me to provide
a service and I did the best I or anyone could do and as such I as anyone else
would expect to be compensated in a prompt manner. Your personal tax issues are
of no concern to me. That's not my problem, it's yours. I don't care about it.
You entered into an agreement with me for services and after said services were
rendered you gave me a bunk check. That's the facts and that's all that concerns
me.

No more contact either by phone or e-mail after that...
