I feel the scooter lasted so long due to the lack of electrical problems from keeping it dry. I hate fixing elec. problems so I prolly would have scrapped it years ago if the elec. would have acted up. Other components like the speedo drive and all the cables are the original ones. There isn't a single gram of rust on it anywhere except the bottom of the center stand/side stand feet where they rub on the ground
I'm still not convinced that water getting sucked into the fan and then blowing all over the stator, spark plug, plug boot and then hitting a hot cylinder is non-harmful.

Air cooled V-twins have been splashed by rain for years. Not saying it's ideal, but I don't think it's an engine failure waiting to happen necessarily. I do agree about the stator and electrical system, but I as riding in heavy rain and through puddles with a 4" scoop practically begging water to hit my stator. Then again, if I did that moire often I may not be so lucky.

I can agree with that thinking. Now that you mention it, you know it's amazing how clean those things really looked when I had them apart. The design of the fan cover must be pretty well done.
