Cleaned up the cylinder and couldn't resist slapping it together hand tight only... for some reason the head is unpainted aluminum while the cylinder is cast iron, painted black; looks kinda mean though. I just wish the piston were inside

Lookin good Walt, hope it makes smoke soon! All the small MX bikes used 12mm pins,a Yamaha,Suzuki, etc dealer should have some good clips if you have any of those shops nearby..

Yeah John, good suggestion, I'll have to call around here. Haven't been in a m/c shop since like 2 decades ago.
Ryan, which kit do I order? minarelli long or CPI?

Thanks ryan! will go look which one applies...
John, my two tone job doesn't hold a candle to one of yours. But I'm tryin'!
my trans seems to be about 13.5:1 reduction. Seems rather high. I have seen a bunch of gears on scrappy? or Parts for Scooters, can't remember which. Will any of those give me near 10:1?

if yours is long case scrappy doesnt have your gears. they are short case gears. go to racing planet and go with cpi hussar gears they are the same as vento and there in stock i believe already pressed

Walt,I had a hard time finding gears for my 103,not much of a selection, maybe its better now..This is what I'm running; Some of the Vento 90cc scoots had a 10(?)final drive too,but finding them was a no-go for me.. John

OK, took the trans apart and I have 13 teeth on the primary. Didn't bother to count the big gear. Thanks for the links guys!
Brent, I will send the guy a msg but if he's asking $200 for that thing complete, Not sure it would be worth it... but thanks for the link!
My trans was difficult to turn by fingers alone, I can turn it but thought it would be much easier to turn, and given the state of the engine, thought the bearings in the trans must also be toast. When I took the cover off and could see the gears, turning the input shaft was suddenly much much easier. I guess there was nothing really wrong with the trans, just resistance from the oil seals. The bearings inside were good, no play and smooth.
John, your primary had 14 teeth? ryan, the one you gave the link to has 15 teeth and the gears are helical cut, not straight like John's Malossi. I would prefer straight cut, but for avoiding the headaches of pressing the gears on, I'd take helical.... except that looks even taller than John's?

well pick what you need not based on others my friend lol. your building a pretty good monster so it could handle the tall gears.

Arghhh; just remembered. I didn't put any kind of spacer under the reed cage. I didn't even bother to check how low it would go with the cases apart, so I don't know how close the cages get to the cylinder. Does anyone know offhand if a spacer is needed? my cylinder is 53mm, I suspect it will need to be spaced out a tad to avoid hitting the cylinder.

I wouldnt even run it with those 13,s they are so steep. It will be screaming at 45MPH with those. Get the 10,s for sure! I run them also with great results even in a dragscoot.
Allot of models have the stock angle cuts in 10:15 like Brent mentioned. Vento Tritons and X-peeds, RX8,s, etc..
