Hey everybody last week I scored a speed 400g moped at the dump. motor wanted to turn over when I got it just need a carb clean turned over fine. My cusin did the carb cleaning for me. This is my first, restoration of sorts project I have found very little info about this moped except it is 43cc motor, its from the 70s, and it will top out at about 25-30 which i have not confirmed yet todate i have torn apart the moped almost to the frame, and have been cleaning all the dirt out of as much of the moped as I can I know it needs a throttle cable and the previous owner did a hack job on the wiring as in there is almost none left other than the electric start which doesnt work. so I will be re wiring everything from head to toe. oh also forgot its missing the battery has a weird sized battery compartment of about 2x6x6ish, but on to the pic. here is the start of the tear down took the throtle off before the pic took off the foot board trying to see if there was a cable adjustment seat and rear fender is off one of the taillight bulbs lol If anyone can help me find more info on this moped that would be of much help or if it was actually built in the 70s I plan on repainting this moped and restoring/customizing it

I don't think that's from the 70's. Could be, but looks like relatively recent, at least within the last 20 years, stuff that comes from China. It's the same style of engine that a lot of midbikes like the Cateye, X1, X2, etc... used and prob most commonly found these days in gopeds. It does not generate any charging or lighting current, so it relies solely on the battery for all accessories. It's not street legal in a lot of areas and really looked at as more of a toy (hate to call motorized things like this toys though, still hurts when you crash them). It's not meant to ride to and from anywhere but your bud's house down the street or around a parking lot IMO. Make sure you understand that before you invest much time into wiring. Since it's a piston port 2T engine, boost bottles do make a difference. 49ccscoot.com/boost.htmlTuned pipes help out quite a bit on those engines. Not sure exactly what will fit it. There are different ones for midbikes and gopeds to work with their frames. If you are experienced with engines you can probably do some very mild porting and possibly raise compression. If you don't opt to install a battery, the electric start setup can be removed to only leave the pull start, which takes some weight off of the crank. If the pull start isn't setup just right they'll break regularly. Depending how the gearing is stock, changing front or rear sprockets can make a big difference, at least in a tuned engine. A few sites I used to shop on... www.scooterparts4less.comwww.pocketbikesunlimited.comwww.davesmotors.comwww.adaracing.comParts For ScootersIt's been a long time since I owned anything with that engine, but hopefully something there will be of use.

Thanks for the info I tried to do some research but couldn't find much of anything on it. My assumption from what I got at least was that the motor was swapped out and the rest was old but again I really couldn't find much info. I mainly want to get it all working so I can mess around with it a bit then flip it for another scooter project.

Forgot to mention, since it's a two-stroke with no injection system make sure it's got oil mixed in with the gas at 32:1 to 40:1. You prob already knew that, but better safe than sorry. Quite a few here with similar styling... www.fancyscooters.com/category0039-discontinued-yet-parts-available-scooters.htmlTo flip it, I'd clean the whole thing thoroughly. Re-lube the chain after cleaning. Get the chrome parts broken down and wire wheel the rust off then you'll prob need to paint them. Run the new throttle cable. Get a set of grips for the hbar (bicycle grips prob fit). Wash/wax the panel and Armor All the seat. Prob easiest to ditch the wiring other than a kill switch, if equipped. Not sure it's worth much, so keep your costs as low as possible. Around me, that would prob be $50 on craigslist all cleaned up and running... but they aren't really legal on any street here so you may have a better market. Might wanna check local craigslist or other classifieds before you get too deep into it.

So fixed the kill switch a little while ago and found at idle with the idle all the way down the magnito reads 10.88 volts so possibly tomorrow I'll wire up a rechargeable drycell push mower battery that I have it fits inside the battery box with 4"x6"x2" to spare so I have space to mount the relay system

Sorry for the lack of picks I fixed the throttle moped runs about 5 feet then bogs down and the idle goes down I believe it to be one of two things either the tires need more air which they do, or the clutch needs repair any advice on clutch repair?

Shouldn't be the tires causing that. Check them anyway.
Sounds like it's lean to me. Might get enough fuel for a short burst then it runs out. Could be fuel delivery to the carb or carb tuning. Check that the fuel system is vented. Easy check is just to see if it does better with the cap off. Make sure all lines and filter are clear and in good condition. There's no pump I guess, so fuel is gravity fed. Is that the original mounting location for the fuel tank? It's prob gonna have to be mounted above the carb's height to work properly.

Thanks for all of your help 90gtvert I really appreciate it. Yes, that is the stock location for the gas tank, I filled up the tires today with air and got to ride it down the street and back its still a little sluggish but I'll work that out. Its supposed to rain the next couple days so when I get a chance I'll take a video ond some more pics
