Reeds should be tight.. I have seen MANY of the stock Phenolic Plastic Reed Cages warp from heat..and the Reeds don't seat properly. That is why I get the aluminum cages that have a vulcanized rubber coating..they seal well and don't seem to warp as easy.. Yeah, at least I noticed it before I ended up having trouble with it. moofus02 is going to hook me up cheap (thanks man) with one that is hopefully in better condition than mine. You can see from the picture above it is not a standard reed cage, and I cannot find an aftermarket one for it ANYWHERE! I can still get a stock new one from Yamaha if worse come to worse. Seems that kit is a low rev, torque happy one out of the box. Like a Polini Sport kit. What exhaust are you trying to match to again? If its the Next R I would leave the durations lower and try that out first with a tighter squish. Maybe a thick base gasket to get the trans duration up a bit, then file some material off the ex side of the piston to get exhaust duration a bit higher As 2strokd said..The kit I sold ya is a torque happy BBK using a thin single base gasket..with a tight squish band Hoca clone type head that it came with. Yes the timing is near identical to the Polini Sport kit..just a lot cheaper in price and Taiwanese made. Same exact kits I use because it makes lots of power within the range of the stock pipe...so no need for a high performance tuned pipe. But when I shimmed it a bit and added my Techingas Next R pipe..it became a whole new animal and was able to rev higher and have a wider power band. But even bolted on 'as is' with no port timing adjustment and a stock pipe..it is NO SLOUCH then as well. Same Kit I sold to nelson and many others on here that used stock pipes that showed plenty of Gusto..then later updated to a performance pipe. That is one reason I want to send you this new piton kit I have... So in case you want to file a bit on your piston you will still have a spare brand new one should you decide to go back to where it was. Since the brand new piston and ring kit is free to you..ya can't say no.. Now that my hectic week is past..I will zip it on out your way Monday. This one came with port windows in the piston where the other did not..which well..is still a confusing issue to me. But maybe it does matter? All my 10mm wrist pin BBK kits come with a ported window..but the 12mm wrist pin BBK ones didn't. However!!??.. The new 12mm piston kits themselves did come with a ported piston. So tinker with both and ya may come up with a real NASRA Contender.. Just remember a Vino is a very lightweight Scoot..and they really fly with a BBK.. Glenn Lol! looking forward to a ride with decent torque. Me being at nearly 300lbs, I will be interested to see if I can power wheelie the thing, and NOT hurt/mame myself in the process!

Whimpy me at 5' 8" and 149lbs..everything wheelies with me on it.. Even a Power Wheels Barbie Jeep.. lol.. So the torque making BBK really slides my bony ass back in the seat. But when riding 2 up my nephews are well over 300lbs total..and it really moves... So worry not..you will have fun..

I took the clutch, and torque driver apart and went through it today. I installed a 1000 RPM contra spring, it was just a bit longer, and a little stiffer overall than the stock spring.
I installed 1500 RPM clutch springs which seem to be a good bit stiffer than the stock clutch springs. The stock clutch is the type with only 2 shoes, but the springs for a standard 3 shoe clutch seem to fit it just fine to me.
I also looked closer at the stock carb and noticed that it looks very small. I would like to use the stock carb if possible because I like the push-pull throttle cable steup, and I don't think any of the standard carbs I have will fit in its place due to limited space.

The zuma uses a dinky little carb also but a lot of guys use it with a pipe and bbk by jetting accordingly. May not be ideal but it will work ok

It rained here most of the day. So it was a good day to work on scooters. I got a good bit done today. I also realized I have misplaced a few parts for this scoot. Somehow I am missing the hanger bolt, brake cable parts, and some other stuff. The good news is the stock exhaust bolted right up almost perfect. All I need to get it running is the reed cage straightened out, and the carb put back together.

The head in this kit came with a metal gasket, and an O-ring. The squish looked pretty big, too big to measure with solder, So I decided to raise compression a bit by using the O=ring and 2 coats of copper spray instead of the metal gasket. I checked compression, and came up with about 160. I am hoping that will be good. I replaced the 64 main jet in the stock carb with a 85, and drilled out the stock 46 pilot jet 1 size bigger. I picked up a jet drilling kit at the pawn shop that was meant to be used on gas burners, but I figure it will work on most any brass jets. The stock battery for this vino is small, and there is not much room for a larger one. I charged it up and it read 13 volts, but it would barely turn the motor over. It did have enough power to check the lights. The left turn signal worked, but the right side signals did not work. I pulled the switch assembly off of the handlebars, and found mud wasps had made a home inside of the switch. It was like chipping cement out of the switch! I finally got the signals working.

160 psi is a bit higher than most get from this kit..but a good number and explains why the starter had trouble cranking it...can you kick start it ok? Pressure on mine actually went up a bit once the engine broke in..and polished the cross hatch cylinder pattern for a better seal. Told ya these kits are no 'slouch' for being low cost...and with compression that good.. wait till ya fire it up and feel the torque.. weeee...

I am just waiting on a reed block for it from Moofus02 and it will be running. I did use the kick start to check the compression. I need a new battery, and I think the e-start will be fine.

Yeah those stock Vino...Jog and Razz Batteries are kinda tiny n whimpy.. They do work well on a Power Wheels Barbie Corvette though..lol.. My Adly came with a 3 amp battery..hell I have flashlight batteries that are 4 amp even..

I got the Vino on the road! Its a fun little ride! Loads of low end torque, and topped out @ 45.59 mph on its first 12 mile ride. I have not tuned anything beyond the airscrew from the inital setup, and everything is real close to being right on the money. How lucky was that? Not all luck though, gotta say thanks to moofus02 for the reed cage, or it would not have been finished today, and of course usmcdoc for the cyl kit, and the help he provided along the way. The only thing I am shre to change is the clutch springs. The 1500 springs I installed on this 2 shoe clutch are just too much. I am not sure at what RPM the clutch engages at, but when it does it snatches off the line hard. No doubt the belt is moving up out of "low gear" before the scooter even starts moving! cant wait so see what low gear has really got with the right clutch springs. Now for the bad stuff. Got a call from my wife today while I was at the warehouse working on the Vino. My wife and daughter were riding the honda nighthawk, and were stopped at a red light at a busy intersection when a lady making a turn, and talking on a cell phone clipped her front wheel. It knocked them and the bike over. The wife skinned her knee, and ankle a bit, my daughter just fell on her butt. They were not really hurt, but they were understandably shook up quite a bit. The lady ended up just leaving the scene because they were "OK" The wife called me to retrieve them and the bike. The bike did not fare very well. The footrest is bent, the front brake lever is broke, front blinker broke, scratches, but the worst part is the forks are tweaked, and the front wheel may be bent. I had the wife call the police to fill out a report when I got her home. I told the cop it is likely totaled, but in his expert opinion, he said it was not! WTF! I explained to him that its a 23 year old bike and worth around 1800 at best. He disagreed and said it nope. I guess it was extra paperwork or something if it was totaled, I dont know. It time to get back on the Vino for me...I need some therapy! Bye!

Nice work on the Vino- I like the style of em. And.. really glad the family is OK.
I don't put much stock in what cops have to say, or anything they do really. The truth is I almost got clipped yesterday by a CITY COP here who looked right at me and then ran his stop sign (2 way stop - only he had the stop sign) and I really think he thought I was just gonna jam up my brakes in traffic so he could go on ahead of me driving like a goon. He finally jammed his brakes and came to a stop right dead in the middle of the intersection, and I approached slowly and goosed it on around him.
Ehhhh... I really try and be fair with everyone.. even them, but of all people to get hit by I just know if a cop hit me they're liable to turn around and say I hit them and all of them would cover for each other. I've seen them do it. And then me n them would have one long drawn out episode of court appearances cuz I'm not taking that crap off of them.
Thankfully we only have 6 cops in my little country town and I'm pushing 40 with a clean record so they leave me be. Bunch of blockheads tho.
Didn't mean to derail. Sux about the bike, but the family being safe is priceless my brother.

oh ps depending on the year of that nighthawk, theres all kinds of model forks that will fit the tree on them, i had a nighthawk and several hondas over the yrs.. u might get lucky and grab a set off of ebay on the cheap.
i could chip in a spare set of good fork springs but thats about it :/ i dont have any extra forks. lotta different ones will fit those tho for the most part.
